    Re: Dell E172fpb

On the one I fixed (using it as I type) the thing that made it all of a sudden after running through the hoops and making it behave was a solder joint under the copper ground foil. This looked right but when you thumped the chassis it would make and brak the connection. Took a few days of chasing to narrow it down to the area and it looked fine visually other than a slight bt of dull solder. I hit it with the iron and it has been working absolutley perfectly for over a year now.

The only reason I even thought to do that was someone had mentioned the...

  • Re: Fix for Benq FP737s 17" (Q7T3)

Just thought I'd reply here as well so if anyone else runs across this.

When I had pulled the cap to check it, thinking it was toast I noticed that just a part of the pad was lifted. What was strange was at this point there was no crack separation or lifting of the pad from the track or the track itself. ie it was just a small portion of the pad. At this point I thought perhaps I had been a bit too hot on the iron (thinking of previous bad board comments). I was looking at this under good magnification so I...

Just to add another data point and something else to look for.

On mine it exhibited sort of what everyone has described as the inverter section having problems. On mine I always had a display but it would white out or grey out. And I noticed that a tap on the side of the monitor would sometimes clear this up or make it better.

I took it apart when this got annoying enough and didn't see anything obvious. I soldered the transformers...

    Re: Dell E172fpb

I was just given one of these screens and it was supposed to be dead with an inverter problem. Got it home, plugged it in and way and away with went. I used it for a few days with no problems then had the black out. If I powered it off and back on I would usually get the the display back first time. I blew it out and it seems to be working fine again. The amount of dust that I got out of it would be enough to make my laptop cranky. Having read the posts here I wonder if this is just a pre failure symptom of the transistors made worse but the dust/reduced airflow?...
