  • PSU LCD Monitor I - INC CY199 PCB: EP/YP-784 REV:1

    Hello,

Replacing some of the caps on this PSU and have a few questions please.

Replaced a 82uF 400v cap that had slight buldge and tested, it reads 87.3uF now, presuming a failed cap can go down or up from it's operating uF?

The replaced cap is physically shorter and the original was horizontal on the PCB (longer) but ratings are the same and I managed to solder it upright in my haste. The PCB remounts and the thin metal protective cover (over complete PCB) fits but is flush with this cap, guessing it's a bad idea as the cap won't vent upwards but discharge...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello and what's that electronic burning smell?

I'm 44 and have worked in IT from 16, starting with DEC PDP mainframes. Enjoy taking things apart and in older age don't enjoy trying to remember how they go back together. Now that there are so many resources available on the internet, starting to learn more about electronics and components after spending many years looking at broken system components going "that looks fecked" and posting to the skip.

    Cheers,
    Gareth.
