Old PII PSU won't "jump start"? What am I missing
I am trying to configure an old PII ATX unit as a test tool/watercooling pump bleed tool but I have hit a snag. When I try to "jump start" the PSU by connecting the green wire to ground, the PSU only fires up for a split second and then quits. I tried wiring a couple of fans to the 12v and 5v rails to provide a small load, but that didn't seem to help either. What am I missing? I have never had a problem jumpering newer models in this fashion.

KDS 17" LCD
I have a couple of these that I brought home from work. They would no longer power up and are beyond the 1 year full warranty period. From a corporate standpoint I guess it makes more sense to replace these than to repair them, even if parts are covered. New ones have gotten cheap enough by now. When I took them apart I found a whole group of bad caps, some bulging, on the power supply board. All 6 of them are the same, 470uF 25v Xunda brand
I am not real experienced with electronics, but I know some basic theory since I used to work as an industrial construction electrician....

Found inside some KDS LCD monitors on the power supply board.

Re: Motherboard loses time?
OK, sorry for not getting back soonerI haven't gotten a whole lot of research done, robbed parts from this spare-parts heap to build a different backup machine
To fill in a few details: I have changed the battery to a brand new Energizer 2032, I had to because when this board was shelved I robbed the original battery for another rig.
The time issue persists when changing everything but the mobo, because that is what I have done. The rest of the rig that this board once powered is happily chugging away for my...

Re: Motherboard loses time?
Hmm I may have to experiment, but it loses time in both Linux and Windows XP. I belive it also loses time with the machine shut down but not turned off. I am not sure if it does with the PSU unplugged, I will try that experiment next.

Motherboard loses time?
I have an Asus P4P800 Deluxe that loses time, and fast, like several hours over the course of a day. I replaced the board because of the annoyance and my brother is using that replacement still today in his computer. After sitting in my closet for over a year, I tried resurrecting the board for a cheap spare-parts Linux box. I popped a used Celeron in it and it runs just as good as ever, except the time issue. The battery was removed for over a year, and replaced witha new one, CMOS cleared, and flashed to the newest BIOS rev.
Any chance there is a replaceable component to fix this, or...

Re: Cleaning Motherboards - ATTN SMOKERS!!
My roommate and I have both recently quit smoking, so I am learning by experience how to clean tobacco residue off EVERYTHING. The best product I have found so far for taking off nicotine is Castrol Super clean. I have been using it to clean heatsinks and fans, wasn't sure about cleaning boards. I have a spray bottle that I mix it with water in, about 5:1 or so. I am never going to scrub a heatsink again, this stuff works way too good.

Re: Leadtek Winfast A250 with bulging caps
Howdy guys, nice forum you have here.
I had to register to say I have the same model Leadtek card with EXACTLY the same problem. The green T23 1000 uf caps are bulging, and a couple have leaked.
My cooling fans no longer work either both of them are shot, so I have a 80mm fan rigged up to blow on the heatsink. I am trying to decide if it is worth hunting for the caps to fix it or just to run it til it dies.
