• Re: Tried to "Vdrop mod" my P4C800E Deluxe - destroyed it

Ok, problem solved. It was the Cooler "Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B."

The cooler Backplate to be precise. It may be the exact thing posted in the 5th post in this thread:

The original backplate of the "Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B." has different shape compared to original Intel Retention module.

It covers several pins of caps. The 7 caps above the CPU socket to be precise. Normally the Mugen 2 backplate has some sort of soft isolation material on the back....

I just switched to a P4 C 2600 Northwood and my old Zalman CNPS7000 cooler with Intel retention module...

Problems gone!

Now I go back to my old rig setup step by step and try to find the error!

CPU is well supported since BIOS 1016. click Never had such problems with 3 P4C800E Dlx Boards before...

I don´t use auto detection. I am overclocking my CPU. So every entry in Bios is set up by myself. Even beside CPU settings. I use successfully this bios settings for 3 other P4C800E dlx Boards, and this...

• Re: Tried to "Vdrop mod" my P4C800E Deluxe - destroyed it

Ok guys, I just repaired my Enermax Liberty psu and put a new bios battery on the board. I checked the new battery before, it has 3,3 V. The old one had 2,87 V.

But all this don´t fix the problem. The board still boots with "new CPU installed" message. Any ideas?

Meanwhile OC ability get a little bit better due to the psu recapping.
Mostly the 12V and 3,3 V line got more stable and stay stable under heavy load, but also in idle or Bios.

The only problem now...

• Re: ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT

Ok, I dissembled the ELT620AWT and found a similar psu circuit to the ELT500AWT. I measured it and find there is a connection between the one cap pin and blue area. So I should made no short circuit on ELT500AWT.

I reassembled the ELT500AWT and tested it with 3x 120 mm Fans and a water cooling unit. Everything worked so far, no blow ups.

Are there any measurements/tests I can do before I put the psu back in my pc?

Edit:

I put the psu back in the system and it works well. 5 V Line got...

• Re: ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT

I messured 3,3 V and ground on ATX power connector with multimeter diode setting. It shows 016 - 015 in both directions (red -black interchanged).

I shorted the two multimeter pins and the multimeter shows 001. So maybe no short circuit?

Some things are known from this thread:

(See picture for comparision): The black area is ground, because all the black wires go from it to the psu connectors.
My question is: Is the blue area all together (including purple area with pin of my replaced cap)? Because...

Hm, my tools are very limited. I only have this mutimeter. (see picture) Can you tell me what setting on my mutimeter is the right one?

I can messure 3,3V on every psu cable connector? Or should I messure on the circuit?

I checked polarity of the caps several times. I soldered them correctly. I can compare with previous pictures and the markings of the board.

• Re: ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT

Hello again.

Today the caps arrived and I soldered them in the circuit. They fit very good. Thx to Behemot.

Sadly I think something went wrong. I dont know if I short the circuit at one place. All other soldering joints are good imho. Just one went a little bit too big and contacted to another solder area.

Pls look at the pictures. Does anybody know something about this circuit area?

Don´t want to reasemble the psu before I make sure I didnt short the circuit.

• Re: P4C800 poly mod

Just a little question regarding poly caps on this board.

Are they just improving life time, or do they also improve voltage stability of the board and so improve the overclocking ability?

Atm I am recapping my Enermax Liberty ELT500AWT for better voltage stability. Atm I have a stock P4C800E dlx Board with all Rubycon caps close to the cpu socket.

I want to increase OC ability of my P4 EE 3400 Gallatin CPU. The problem is vdrop here. I just try to vdrop mod another board but fail and destroyed it due to lack of tools and...

Hello again,

I discussed the replacement of all caps of the psu circuit with Behemot and came to the following replacement list. First the old caps -> second the new ones form Behemot:

Sometimes things happen really fast, the new inverter arrived and I soldered him in the circuit. What do you say to the quality of my soldering?

New in Circuit measurement:

P2-1 <-> P2-2 = 001 ohms
P3-1 <-> P3-2 = 001 ohms
P2 <-> P3 = 001 ohms
P1 <-> P2 = 1 (no contact)
P3 <-> P4 = 1 (no contact)
S1 <-> S2 = 910 ohms
S2 <-> S3 = 1 (no contact)
S3 <-> S4 = 914 ohms
S1 <-> S4 = 1 (no contact)

Ok, i just unsoldered the 9 caps to see how their condition is.

Beside the obvious bad cap 2, cap 4 and maybe cap 9 are bad.

Now I can give detail information about the original fitted caps:

1: P Ce-Tur 105°C 06-03 10V 3300uF (no damage visible)
2: CTC LLFM 105°C 10V 3300uF Vent 6076 (the obvious broken one)
3: P Ce-Tur 105°C 06-03 10V 3300uF (no damage visible)
4: CTC LFFM 105°C 10V 3300uF Vent 6076 (leakage on the bottom)
5: CTC LFFM...

Ok, I made my first steps in soldering.

I was able to unsolder the inverter from the circuit. It was my first try, I never unsoldered anything before. (beside very simple cap replacement on a Benq LCD circuit) Does it look good? I had problems to remove the tin-solder from the circuit. I never used solder wicks before.

It takes alot of time to find they to get the solder onto the solder wick. So I think I but alot of heat into the circuit. I hope I dont damage anything. With a bit of luck the new inverter will...

Ok, I decided to do the cap replacement myself. I will purchase the caps from Behemot.

I have another question.

What influence can the damage of these 9 big caps of the psu have? What function have these 3300uF caps? Is there any interaction with the overclocking capability of the mainboard?

@ PeteS in CA:

I checked the backside of the psu circuit and marked the pin locations of the caps. You are right, for the one cap I need to solder in the area of the long wire. But is it really necessary...

@ Behemot:

Hm, its ok for me. You suggest to replace all 9 caps I marked on the picture, or all these countless tiny (lower then 10mm) caps on the other places on the psu circuit?

Just want to ask kindly if it is possible to fix the problem for me. Because atm I think I dont have the right tools to do this. If it is possible, how much do you want for the complete replacement of the caps, and maybe assemble it back together and test if it works correctly. (Don´t know how to test the psu, it worked until today, I just want...

Hello Guys

I have a problem with my ENERMAX Liberty psu and dont want to use annother thread, so I abuse this one.

I have one bad cap on my ELT500AWT and want to recap it for better oc stability. I thought my P4C800E dlx has problems with oc stability, but know maybe the psu is the culprit.

I never had real problems with this psu. But maybe this cause these "all of the sudden pc turn offs" with all my 4 P4C800E dlx Boards. It was random, most time when I connect a usb device the pc turns immediately...

Hm, CR2032 still not here, waiting for arrival.

But Kiriakos GR post to psu problems bring me to the idea to check my Enermax Liberty EWT500ALT. And yes there is one, or maybee 2 bad caps.

I dont know which voltage rail they belong, but to increase stability this must be fixed. Maybe this cause these "all of the sudden pc turn offs" with all my 4 P4C800E dlx boards. It was random, most time when I connect a usb device the pc turns immediately off and sometimes dont turn one for...

Well, I just did something wrong. Mistakes happen. I pay the price by buying these boards over and over again. And believe me, on German ebay these are not very cheap. The fact that atm I have 4 of them is the problem that most of these boards come damaged to me. Deep scratches on back, broken Fets, bad caps etc. I just raped one of them with tryin to Vdrop mod it. Sadly that was the only good working one for 24/7 use over 3 years. I will not try this again.

Hm, I never...
