  • Re: Panasonic TC-P50s2 7 blink problem

I finally have measurements from most of the repair kit components - measured in circuit.

The transistors all measured "open" in all directions.

Having three pinouts the diode (D482) looks more like transistors than a diode. They measures "short" in one direction - I assume that is expected.

Resistor R551 measured 10.5ohms I never found resistor R451. I'll have to get the mag glass on it.

I've been out of touch for a couple weeks.

Getting back to measuring the transistors, etc. . . I know just a little about transistors but lately I've seen some article warning that a person could damage transistors if not done properly - it didn't give much detail. I searched further but got more confused and they weren't talking about anything specific to my TV anyway. Can you give me some guidance? I think my multimeter has a range for diodes/transistors is that the protection or is there more I need to be concerned about?...

Thanks TW, that helps. I'll give it a try over this weekend.

TW, I'm lacking knowledge on doing that. How do I do that with the transistors? They have three legs - across which ones am I testing to make it meaningful?
    How about with the IC?
I know I'll want to look at the wiring diagram but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

With the resistors I can measure both sides.

I just need some direction and guidance.
    Thanks,

I looked on the reverse side of the board and got a little confused - particularly on the IC. There aren't as many solder spots as there are legs on the IC and I don't know what IC leg does what. I have to learn a little more about the transistors in order to know how to check them also . . . can you check them and the resistors while they're connected to the board?

I'll probably end up buying a board and then experimenting with repair on the old one.

TW, I just got around to taking a look at the components that are in the repair kit. Now I understand why you said to use those components as a "Guide."

Without looking at those specific components on the SC I assumed it might be easy to replace those components. Now that I've looked, forget about it! I don't know how anyone could successfully change those components, particularly the ultra small resistors and the IC. Praise to those who can do it - they have far superior soldering skills than I do.

Thanks, I have a link with shopjimmy now so that when they get an SC board they automatically let me know via e-mail. I just hope it doesn't take toooo long.

I didn't find the component repair kits on line - the ones with resistors and transistors, etc. - Even if I get a SC from shopjimmy or elsewhere I might try and repair the old SC just to see that I can and have it as a spare since they are sooooo hard to come by.

TW, I'm looking at the board you found on Ebay. Does the revision letter matter on the board? I would think that if it did matter they would change the P/N not just the revision letter.

    Thanks,

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P50s2 7 blink problem

Help me understand the part numbers being different but the boards being interchangeable. I gave the clerk the TV model no. as well as the board I.D. but no luck. Most likely, as you said, the right person on the phone is necessary. I'll give them a call again today.

My household is getting impatient with my repair so I think if I can get an SC board from Panasonic I'll probably go for it even though I would like to go with the repair kit at some point to repair the existing board. I'm looking for the kit on line also, it...

I'll check the PV5 again. I couldn't find TP16 or 17 on my board so let me try again.

    P5V at SC20, pin 35 was 5.56K as expected.
    SC2 did as you predicted.

Have you found the repair kits on Ebay reliable? How about the confidence factor in the kit doing the job? I haven't gotten into Ebay purchases yet but I guess it might be time to start. It has to be much less expensive that the boards.

I called Panasonic to get a comparable price for the SC and the clerk couldn't find the SC board number...

TW, would that board on ebay satisfy my SC board? My SC board P/N is TNPA5105-AB? and the TV is TC-P50S2

    TW,
I took the SC board resistance . .
    SC2(VSUS) + polarity 273K - polarity 22M @VSUS
    P5V 17M 22M @ SD46 SORRY, that was at pin #2
SD 46 Pin #1 was o.o both directions
    P15V 4.2K 1.58K @ TP82

    How does that look?

Let me know if any other SC readings would help.

O.K. Yes, getting the SC board doesn't look good. I tried shopjimmy but it's out of stock.

I'm sure Panasonic's $$ would be much higher. Any other ideas?

I didn't get to the SC board test yet. That's the plan for tomorrow. If that tests fine where do we go from there? The screen itself?

    What's the training guide?

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P50s2 7 blink problem

I removed the SU and SD boards and measured the pins with both polarities.
I thought I got some crazy readings like 38M on some pins under one polarity measurement but when switching they were more reasonable.
    The results follow:
    SD Board:
    + Polarity - polarity Target
    pin # 1 6.49M 30M 1.86M
    #2 218K 218K 220K
    #3 OL
    #4 Ol
    #5 38M 6.6M 5.3M
    #6 38M 6.6M 5.1M...

Should the 4 VF_GND screws and the SC20 ribbon cable to the A board be reinstalled and the jumper be removed prior to measuring the resistance? In other words the only thing disconnected would be SC 41, 42 and 46 and use those GND screws as ground?

Yes, I see that we're testing the SD and SU boards but the terms under the "SD42" column in the chart confused me.

So am I to understand that the terms under SD42 in your chart are the names of those pins, not some test pad that I bridge to? O.K., if that's it I'll go right to it. I'm just a little slow getting up to speed. Thanks,
