  • Re: vizio vw42l hdtv10a no picture/sound

Ya know, I think I knew that, don't know why I asked. also I asked before I read the doc Bud attached. it is a detailed guide to the chip. Now I have another problem, I accidentally blew the ceramic fuse right by the power plug on the power board. does anyone know where I can get one of those?

    OK, I found the ICS301. I attached a Picture

you said I will need to look and find out if the ICS301 (LX1692) has any DC voltage between the Ground pin and the VCC pin or not when the TV is turn on.

can you tell me which one is the Ground Pin and which one is the VCC pin.

I noticed there is a Dot, more like an indentation in the lower left hand side of the ICS301, Is that the ground?...

Wow, that's a lot to take in.
What you said here is correct.

"All I can tell right now after checking the signals from the main board that you have posted, the power-inverter board is getting the correct signals (PS_ON (PFC is working since you are getting the 380VDC), iNV_ON) from the main board but the backlights still do not come on."

I checked the power with a multi-meter at the plug the back lights plug into on the power/inverter board with the power on and there is not any power on either...

I completely understand about being busy.
Just so you know, I don't mind replacing any of the boards I just don't want to buy a board if it is something else like the backlights. also I don't know what board is bad so that is why I want to test them so I am sure I am replacing the correct one.
Remember I have already replaces a surface mounted 3a fuse on the main board and the backlights are still not coming on when I turn the power on.
Someone else mentioned changing some other things on the main board a couple of posts...

well. Ok, I may be able to replace U7 or U9 but if it is U33 then I will have to buy a new main board.
I attached some photos. are these the ones your are talking about?
will you please tell me how to test them to see if they are bad.
    Thank you...

    bud
I was careful and took the readings you asked for.
I think the filter you are talking is the one on the power board on the left hand side near the power input.

If I put the positive lead on the right hand side and the common lead on the left hand side I get the following readings
power applied, power switch off, front "Vizio" Light amber = 160vdc
power applied, power switch on, front "Vizio" light white = 370

Note: I am using a craftsman analog multimeter 82362...

Sorry again I had to go to Disneyland with my family for 5 days. hope I still can get some help. I took some close up pictures of the are mentioned in the post above. I don't think that the board appears to have been overheated. I hope you can tell from the photos. It looks worse in the picture than in real life. also I had the board off and the back side of it does not appear to be discolored at all. I was also wondering about the blue led light on the board above the power board, sorry don't know what it is called. when I press the power...

I have a very similar issue with a VIZIO VW42L HDTV10A. I am fixing it for a older couple in our community and trying to save them from having to buy a new one. when I first got the TV it was not getting any power, the Visio light on the front would not com on either Orange or white. from another thread I found that the f1 fuse on the main board was bad. it had no power across the fuse and when I pressed the power button the F2 fuse did not get any power. I ordered and replaced the f1 fuse (3A) and now both of them get power when I press...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Well, I am new here and already I have been able to use the forum to help getting started repairing a Vizio 42" LCD tv. I am a Computer Network Administrator for a small company in Northern California and as such I wind up being a jack of all trades and of course master of none. I Just cant stand it when something is broke and I know I can fix for a fraction of the cost of replacing it. like with this TV I am working on for an older couple in our community. I found a 1$ fuse on the main board bad that was preventing the...
