• Re: Vizio VF550M clicking, nothing else

I already searched quite thoroughly and determined there was no schematic to be found.

It was a last gasp effort to see if I could avoid the inevitable mainboard purchase

I am not sure of the age. It was given to me by may sister last year.

That brings up a very important question that you may be able to clue me in on. I figured I would probably just buy a replacement board from searspartsdirect, but, as I was typing this sentence, I found out that they no longer...

I appreciate the reply. What I really would like is for VIZIO to have made available a schematic of the mainboard AND a PCB layout. I have no idea what really may have caused the problems - why the LDO's I measured weren't at spec, or why various features randomly failed, then worked again. It's way too much trouble to start replacing parts while feeling blind as to what I'm doing and why. I would rather buy a guaranteed working board eventually someday when I can afford it. I feel lucky that I can sometimes track down a problem...

Been there - still dealing with it.

I inherited a VF550M from my sister exactly one year ago, on Thanksgiving week. Lightning had hit her cable line, disabling the HDMI ports and killing the on-board sound. Resetting via the menu fixed the HDMI ports, but not the sound. The audio-outs on back still worked, which is what I use anyhow.

After a couple of months, the mainboard had failed enough that it no longer came out of standby. I tested voltages on all the mainboard's LDOs and found some that didn't seem to work....

    What is an OFL?

I'm troubleshooting a "no backlight" condition on a Sharp Aquos LC-37HV4U (I think I am anyhow)

    Flow diagram reads:
    "Is a control signal appearing at pin (2) (OFL1) and pin (3) (OFL2) of P7506 and P7616?"

Couldn't find the terminology for OFL online for some reason.

The display's power light blinks red - one blink per second.I'm troubleshooting a "no backlight" condition on a Sharp Aquos LC-37HV4U (I think I am anyhow)

  • Re: Just how hot can mainboard microprocessors run? - Vizio VF550M question.

Thanks for the quick response. I never posted a question here before.

Yeah. It has a decent size heatsink. I took the measurements against the bottom of the heatsink. The temps I posted are actually a few degrees C below what the meter showed because my probe appears to be off calibration, reporting a bit too high.

I jumpered directly from Power Supply 5VSB pin (5volt standby) to the the Power Supply PSON pin through a 240Ω resistor and an LED, which will let...

  • Just how hot can mainboard microprocessors run? - Vizio VF550M question.

Our 55" VIZIO VF550M (120Hz) quit last week. I believe I have solved how to turn it on and thus operate it, but today a somewhat hostile TV repairman told me the microprocessor was going to overheat and burn out more boards (in just 30 minutes he said) after I described what I was going to do.

I initially had no idea how to even investigate this until I watched a video on ShopJimmy.com. I am somewhat knowledgeable. I am self-taught, have repaired many devices, and have designed and built musical effects years ago. I have a decent VM with a temperature probe I had never used until...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hey there,

I'm Ron. For years I have been checking this site for occasional info. I even registered here over 6 months ago just to be able to view an image I needed to see. I had forgotten about that until today. I just found out I had to post at least once to have permission to ask a question here. I suppose that is all and good as I am generally serious about comments and posts. Now I'm probably gonna need to get some advice here, but I'm still in the process of checking voltages to diagnose exactly where my current...
