• Re: Samsung LN40B530P7n solarized image and ghosting

Whoo hoo!
I got several more AS15 in the mail today and went right to work removing the old one from the board.
Cleaned everything up and was careful soldering the new one on. The first time with the old chip I had several times where too much solder was used and bridged a couple pins. I thought I'd cleaned it up well enough but in hindsight probably not.
This time I was extremely careful and had only one case where solder bridged pins.
Using a 10x loupe I saw where the pins bridged there was solder...

Roger that. I only had it on enough to test voltage and take pics. Hopefuly it will be ok.
It'll take a couple weeks to get the new chips so till then I'll just cover it up so it doesn't get dusty with the woodworking I need to do.

Thanks,

So, I'm guessing the solarized/negative image is the t-con AS15 chip. The one I just put on gets real hot and the voltages are way off so either it was bad to begin with or I damaged it durring installation. As I said I've got a few more coming and will try them and see what we get.

The vertical lines are a little conserning. I'm hoping you guys say it could still be the t-con board.

Thanks for looking.

• Samsung LN40B530P7n solarized image and ghosting

I thought I'd get a thread started for this TV since I'm bored at work.
The initial problem was a solarized display but the menus looked ok. The test patterns within the service menu looked ok but I think the colors were off on those as well.

The gama voltages had some spikes and dips across the 22 test points so I replaced the AS15-f. The results are the display is very white and the menus that were black are now white as well. The new chip gets quite hot as well.

I've got a few more AS15's on order since they're cheap and somewhat easy to replace to see...

• Re: Dynex DX-46L150A11 backlight/inverter problem?

Although I gave the set away before it was fixed it turned out to be the lamps not the inverter.
Do you know how long the set has been on?
In a room with the lights on the set looked good for the 30seconds it was on, but in a dark room you could clearly see one of the lamps wasn't lit.
Before spending money on an inverter take it apart to look at the lamps.
If the ends are blackened you may be looking at new lamps instead of an inverter.
I was able to rewire the output of the inverter (esentally...

Well, I'd love to order a set of lamps and have another 'FIXED' in my column but the CFO has denied my budget request.

All the lamp ends are pretty black. I might just order one lamp and see just how long the others last.
Or I could make up a big matrix of led's and use something to do local dimming

Seems such a shame to throw something thats repairable away...but then that's the society we live in.

Thanks for your help and quick responses.

• Re: Dynex DX-46L150A11 backlight/inverter problem?

Well, it's definatily a bad bulb.
I cut the traces that go to two bulbs and swapped them and the unlit bulb didn't move. Inverter is good.
So, the only thing to do is disassemble the display panel.

Taking it apart was easy enough...I just really hate touching the actual display panel (finger prints and all. OK, I have issues)
You can see in the pic the bad bulb. You can also see that the plastic reflectors are pretty crispy (I can paint or put some foil on them). They should...

• Re: Dynex DX-46L150A11 backlight/inverter problem?

Thanks guys,
I had checked all the transformers and they all read about the same. In-circuit readings fluctuated a bit so I removed a few including the suspect one and they all read the same. The two leads on the bottom left are the primary with 1 and 3 the secondary. With it out there was no continuity to 2 or any wire soldered to it that I could tell.

When I jumpered things I ignored terminal 2 because it didn't seem to be connected internally. I'm going to try again this time cutting the trace that goes...

• Dynex DX-46L150A11 backlight/inverter problem?

I was given a 46" Dynex that would light up for 10 to 30 seconds then go dark. Sound works find and there's no whining/buzzing sound coming from anything.

I fixed a 21" monitor about a year ago with a kit from here so I thought I'd start with the caps on the TV. Nothing looked obvious and all the voltages tested good even under load.
I replaced all the large caps on the inverter for the heck of it but no change.

So, researching on the forum I discovered other things that usually go wrong with Darfon inverters. All the fuses and transformers tested ok....

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi everyone,
I found this site about a year ago when I needed to fix a 21" ViewSonic monitor. The problem was obvious in that many of the caps had blown. I orded a kit and was rewarded with a working monitor.

Now I hope to fix a 46" Dynex TV that I got for free. Kinda has the 2 seconds to black but not quite.

Thanks for providing such a helpful forum,

davidk
