Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
I put everything back together and it looks like everything is working fine. Removing the glue did the trick. Thanks to all of you for your help. This forum is great.

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
The unit is supposed to have a demonstration slide show that comes in internal memory. The slide show I think is gone because the unit now shows the message 'no photos'. But I set the time and date, pulled the plug, plugged it back in, and the time and date remained. I inserted a memory card and it displays photos properly. I can also copy photos from the memory card to internal memory and play them there.Last edited by sumdumgai; 05-07-2017, 12:49 AM.

Has an internal 128MB memory but unit says no photos. I'll get back to you on this. Thanks.

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
Screen is still lit. Looking good. Any theories as to why it started to work? I haven't done anything to cause that except not touch it for a couple of days.
I have another question, though. Attached picture shows what looks like more glue on what looks like a button battery, but I don't think it is. Is that a battery or is it something else?...

Thanks very much. But hallelujah, I plugged it in a while ago and the screen lit up and has stayed lit.

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
Thanks, but I'm sorry that that doesn't help me. Which photo? What resistor? Which caps and how can you tell that any are dislodged from this side of the board? I can't see, even with a magnifying glass, what you're referring to?

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
Ain't that a Btch! But now I'm wondering why removing some of the glue made the problem worse. I was really careful to not damage the board or any connections.

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
Not sure which pins you're talking about. But anyway, what is the purpose of this 'conductive glue'? Is it already conductive and used in place of solder, or is it just glue and it becomes conductive with age? Thanks.

Thanks. Is there any way you can point to the areas/pins you're referring to on the picture and re-post it?

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
No luck. Removed most of the glue (using acetone to first soften). See picture. Now, the screen will not light at all....

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
Thanks. I'll try that. Is there a 'best' way to remove it, aside from being careful?

Re: HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
So the chip is bad? The one that "has a heat sink tab to the board and also has a lot of pins on it and looks like some thing spilled on it or burned up"?

HP Digital Picture Frame goes black
HP 8" Digital Picture Frame model df810v1. Screen initially lights up with images but after a few minutes, the screen goes completely black. Would this likely be a capacitor problem? I've posted a picture of the board. If this is likely a capacitor problem, can those bad capacitors be identified for me on this picture? Thanks. None of the capacitors appear to be bulging....
