I have a Dell 2405FPW I purchased at an auction. I purchased it knowing it didn't work correctly.

When a Dell monitor is powered on without a computer connected, the monitor should go into "self test" mode with a color strip test image on the screen. When I power up my 2405FPW without a computer connected, the buttons on the monitor light up, and the screen lights up like it's powering up, but the self test screen won't come up. Hello Badcaps!

I'm not a component or electronic engineer. I guess you would call me an extreme hobbyist. Most of my projects are mechanical in nature (restoring old cars, rebuilding engines, ect.). But I'm getting more and more into building electronics (controls for cooling systems and such).
