Re: Samsung Plasma: picture fails, sound remains
Yep! I had read some of your previous posts about keeping the firmware up-to-date. Did that before I installed the replacement X-main & X-buffer. (Don't need to do it again after replacing those boards, do I ? I wouldn't think any of the firmware resides on those boards, but I could certainly be wrong about that.)
Thanks,

Re: Samsung Plasma: picture fails, sound remains
I examined the solder joints with a magnifier. While some don't look "perfect", none look bad enough that I would expect them to cause a failure. Also, my soldering skills are not good enough for me to think I could improve them.
I hope you don't mind a couple of quick questions:
When replacing the X-main, do you recommend replacing the X-buffer also?
My PBA # for X-Main is LJ92-01688A, but the number on the barcode sticker ends with "AA2" (BA...

Re: Samsung Plasma: picture fails, sound remains
Thanks for the response and the note of caution.
Any thoughts as to whether the symptoms I'm seeing (intermittent picture failure) could be due to a problem with the plasma panel? While tapping the X-main or X-buffer elicits a failure, that same would also create some vibration in the panel also.

Great forum here! I've learned a lot from reading these posts.
My problem is a Samsung Plasma PN42B450 which is 4 years old. About 6 months ago it started losing its picture, while sound continued. When this happens it will still respond to the remote control (volume up, down, power off, etc.), but nothing shows on the screen (not even the menu items). The only way that I have found to restore the picture is to power off, then power on. That brings back the pic, but over time it has gotten worse, such that the picture may fail 3, 4, or even 10-12 times during the first 15 - 30...

Howdy Guys & Gals! J.R. from Texas here.
I stumbled across this great site while researching a problem I'm having with my Samsung plasma. I decided I should register since I was finding several folks with similar problems and also found several great tips on troubleshooting the problem. I'll keep reading to see if the answer to my problem is already posted somewhere, but if I strike out I'll post my symptoms.
Thanks to all of you who keep this form up and running, and also thanks to those who...
