• Re: Help my wife select a Christmas present

You know, that Bakon does look kind of nice. I think I'll try to get a hold of Amazon, and if they'll send out just the missing springy iron holder, without returning the whole thing I'll keep the original, else I'll likely order the Bakon in it's place....

  • Re: Help my wife select a Christmas present

Thanks for the input, and link to the Yutube vid--still not sure what his bottom line opinion was

As I mentioned, I have been doing fine with an old single speed (40 watt ?) Weller, as I just don't currently do much soldering, so anything that actually heats up is more than really NEED.

I'm kind of leaning toward keeping the Aoyue, because it seems simpler. Is there any reason to prefer the larger, slightly more complicated 24 volt version? Is the temperature control better, does it heat better? Thanks.

  • Help my wife select a Christmas present :)

My wife took notice of my current (heh) re-interest things of an electronic nature, and took it upon herself to relay a request for a new soldering implement to Santa.

For years I have used a very old Weller soldering iron. Wife found, and ordered this, https://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-Variable-Soldering-Station-Removable/dp/B00MCVCHJM/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482043194&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=aoyoue+469

Unfortunately, the dealer did not include the springy iron holder, and the Aoyue will have to be returned.

    I really don't do enough...

  • Re: Used Multimeter question.

Weird, they were fine with buying it, and opening it there. Good suggestion, Thanks.

One 660 V 500 mA, and one 660 V 10 A. Both checked out. They weren't ceramic that I'm used to seeing, but similar material--certainly not glass. Guessing fast blow, but all I could make out on the end caps was voltage and current ratings.

Unlike the pictures of the fuses in the pictures of the AM520, both fuses in this AM510 were approx. the same size, with no writing on the side, just rating on end caps. Don't know if that's as it should...

  • Used Multimeter question.

I have a chance to buy a used Amprobe AM 510 at a really great price. The problem is that I don't know for certain how to determine if it will read current, as the re-sale store it is at doesn't want me to wire it in series to check it, or even open it to test the fuses.

I did test for continuity with another meter, AM510 dial set at both amps, and ma, and there was continuity. Does this at least indicate that that the fuses are likely intact?

Store says it will refund money if it is broken, but I'd feel better if I had a way to test current reading function without...

  • Re: Olevia 432-s12, blue light flashing, else, nothing.

Sorry for not posting in so long a time. I put the Olevia aside for a while, when I found a much larger Samsung on sale for cheap.

This may not be as helpful as it could be, since I misplaced my list of parts, and took no pictures, but if anyone is experiencing the same problem I was having, it might help you at least get started in the right direction.

The T.V. is working perfectly now. I'm not sure where I'm gonna put it, but at least it work.

    Initially I replaced 2 capacitors,...

The pics will have to wait a bit, until i can re-disassemble the TV. I put it back together until I realized that we really couldn't deal with watching a CRT TV anymore. Hopefully have the pics later today or tomorrow.

The caps came from a local electronics supply house, the place where local shops go, when they need parts....

  • Olevia 432-s12, blue light flashing, else, nothing.

Please be gentle with me, I am pretty much an amateur in electronic matters. Not totally ignorant, I know a capacitor from a hole in the ground, but don't have much experience in diagnosing problems, so any suggestions will be appreciated.

My Olevia 432-s12 went out in the middle of a TV program. Trying to turn it back on, all I got was constant flashing blue light on the front panel.

I removed both inverter boards, and found identical suspicious looking capacitors on both boards. Ends bulged, leaking. I replaced both capacitors, and replaced the boards. Nothing....

  • Re: HP-S5053 4 blue blinks - no video or audio

I have an Olevia TV that also flashes a blue light and won't turn on. Sorry to post on your thread.
