  • Re: Sony CECH-ZED1U Playstation 3D LED TV - Two Red Flash

You my friend need to read up on floating gate transistors

It is very possible to see the intermittent results with a bad EEPROM, the bigger question then being is if this is bad circuit design or bad firmware design.

In any case great work Mckitrick!...

If you are reading all FF then your problem is most likely either your programmer or the connection to the programmer, or that the chip is fried. I do not see any implication of security for read based commands for this chip. There are only 2 write protected sections of this chip, one being used to store serial number information and is only write once, the other being enabled and disabled by hard/software.

If you are having problems make sure your settings are correct for the chip in your programming software,...

  • Re: panasonic TC-l37x2 clicking power

I got my main board for around $42 on ebay. But even down to your experience with holding the power button down and seeing the optical light act accordingly, all exactly like my problem before replacing the board.

Obviously I can't say with 100% certainty that is your problem, but I can tell you that is EXACTLY how mine was before I replaced the main board to fix the issue.

    Good luck!

That sounds EXACTLY like the problem I had with my TC-L32X1.

Turns out it was the main board. Thankfully I (guessed?) correctly the first time and chose that over the power board. I've been running it for about 2 months now no problems!

That's not a service port, its a charging port for the glasses. It's in the owners manual.

Welp just got the board in yesterday. I have been running it for hours without issue so knock on wood but it seems that the A board WAS the issue. Thanks again Tom66 for your countless efforts on these forums

Alright so I already ordered the A board but just now while the TV was on it turned on and off a couple times and then started blinking 13 times. This shows up in the manual as an SOS which points to the A board being the problem. Now all it does when you plug it in is make the initial click and then the red led goes solid, just like if it were on, however nothing actually powers up.

I'm just wondering if it would be safe to plug the new A board in when it comes or if you think there might be a power supply issue that blew this A board?

Also had a question, when looking at the service manuals, a good portion of the power lines are highlighted orange. Does this mean simply that they are power lines, or does it mean that they are hot? I saw some power lines that were not highlighted orange that is why I was wondering. Didn't find anything about the coloring in the manual.

Hey I tried to get a bin from my TV the other day but unfortunately the only programmer I have right now with SPI is the Willem programmer, and its Parallel based and the only computer I have with a Parallel port is having some sort of issue that causes it to freeze up randomly. Im guessing its a cracked solder joint on the BGA. I am trying to find something else to read it or another computer somewhere to borrow to read it. Unfortunately Parallel ports are not common these days

Also, can the chip be read in circuit do you know? Just so I know when I do get a computer.

  • Re: Panasonic TC-L32X1

Ok, so the TV just started working again and has been working for long periods of time now. I was able to pull SOS codes via the service menu, and the SOS codes point to an SOS 4, which according to this TV's service manual is a "DTV 12v" error and says it's an issue with the P Board. I was *just* about to order the A board and then I saw this and am now doubting it again.

Now, I never got the SOS code from a blinking power light, ONLY from the service menu did I get this information. See the pictures below.
    Anybody have experience...

Awesome thanks again for your help I'll try looking for an A board.

Alright, A board was my first guess as well way back when I first got the set. My last question is would the relay be kicking on and off because of a short or because of a power drop or because of the micro not responding accordingly? I just haven't worked on a TV with relays before so I'm curious as to their operation in this situation.

Also, here is a pic that somewhat shows about what I would see the couple times it froze before shutting off:

I'm thinking of ordering the A board, I just wish I had a little more confidence in what the problem might be.Re: Panasonic TC-L32X1<br /> <br />...1229.jpg[/url]

Unfortunately the red standby light never turns on. When the set was working, the light only came on when the TV was powered on. Just for my piece of mind, if I was to lean towards an A board issue, why would the main cap be dipping between 400 and 350v? And also any idea as to why holding the power button in will cause it to dip to 170v?

I'm trying to get better at understanding the power circuits on these TV's and I enjoy reading your posts tom as they are always insightful and explanatory.

Hey guys I have one here that should be simple, just looking for a quick answer on what you guys think.

I got this TV the other day, and it would power on, but randomly turn itself off, and then click the relay a few times and turn itself back on, usually with a message "an error has been detected and recovered."

Now there were also a few times where the TV would just "freeze" with a screen of a lot of vertical bands of color before doing the power cycle as mentioned earlier.

Today I try to start measuring stuff and low and behold...

hey bud if you could get us a bin for the playstation tv it would be great and i could help you i have a blackcat usb programmer and have connected to 2 different chips i have 2 of these tvs and none of them will read so there completly shot i ordered some new chips
and was able to read and write to them but i dont have the needed file what programmers do you have ill get you the pinouts the chip pinout is standard spi cs clk si so hld vcc and i had to have 3.3v going to wp also

  • Re: Sony CECH-ZED1U Playstation 3D LED TV - Two Red Flash

So it looks like it really was the EEPROM then huh. Well that's awesome news! Since I am super lazy anyone want to tell me if I can read the chip with SPI or something common? I have a couple programmers at home and if I have one I can read with I can provide a bin. It'd be nice to have a backup when/if my set fails again.

Someone do the hard work for me and I'll see what I can do about providing a bin :P

  • Re: Sony CECH-ZED1U Playstation 3D LED TV - Two Red Flash

tom66 is correct. An EEPROM is used for config settings and other flag based parameters usually. This is due to the fact that EEPROMs are usually slow speed and are meant to grab a couple bytes here and there, not to read tons of start-time code to boot the TV up. However everyone is correct in stating that a corrupt EEPROM could prevent the TV from completing it's turn on. For example, the configuration for "Turning the TV on when receiving an HDMI signal" is most likely stored in the EEPROM. If the EEPROM was...

I have a warranty replaced monitor. Ill check the EEPROM when I get home to see if it has a different number on it. Also, does anybody else find it strange that the guy on eBay that fixes these has the EEPROM chip marked with a marker? Or are all of your boards like that?

I also have tons of programmers. If you guys really think this could be it I can see about getting the EEPROM off of my set. I would love to help provide a fix.

  • Re: NS-LCD32 - Power Cycling

Well as per the first post the new board had the exact same symptoms as the old board, with the tv still cycling power on and off. It was the comment of new boards not always working that made me start looking into the power boards. I found the 2 issues with the old board and fixed them thinking maybe the new power supply was just sent broken, and rather than try and figure that out I found the common problem of the output cap being bad on the old power supply and thought maybe that was my problem. The only thing I didn't try with the new power supply...
