  • Re: Saving a Vizio 50" Plasma VP50HDTV10A from the recycle bin

I swaped the Z sustain board out for a replacement and still have the blotchy image. [Blotchy 1, Blotchy2] Bad replacement board or different issue? The only other thing that might be noteworthy is the sticker on the panel says the Vs calls for 198V and I'm getting 188-89V at the board. I would think that would still give me something of an image......

A second person with knowledge of such things mentioned the Z sustain as well so I started looking online for a replacement board.
In my search I actually found a place that has one about 1/2 hour drive from me, and better yet they will take some boards I have out of a Samsung plasma in trade. So no waiting for shipping and no cost but the trade of parts. When I put the replacement in I will update the results.

Newest symptom: I get a "brightning" of the screen, so I assume there's power going to something it should. The screen has blotches of grey and black around the whole screen in random pattern like camoflage. Also there are blue sparkles that flash all over it as well. No "Menu" and no start up image, but something is happening. As long as that does not mean the screen is bad, I'll take it as progress.

Ok, so I unplugged cables from the board on the left. (Which is I believe the Ysus, correct?) There are three cables, one with many wires coming from the power supply board, one leaving the Ysus going over the power board accross the whole unit and plugging into the Zsus, and another one coming from the power supply board to the Ysus but this one only has a few wires.
In short, other than hearing things lose power, not much happened. No picture came up of any kind or lights came on, that's for sure.

Ok, thanks for the heads up on the Va. I used the adjuster and it's now at 59.1V. Vs I was able to carefully get to about 185-6V and then it pop's off if I go any more. Yes, popping sound just might be coming thru the speakers. Clicking and slight humm are definitely on the board. I am meeting friends for dinner and will try and unplug the board on the left when I get home later.
Thank You. Your input is appreciated, as is your "hobby of keeping things out of landfills"! Similar here.
    P.S....

  • Saving a Vizio 50" Plasma VP50HDTV10A from the recycle bin

Hello. Newbie here. I'm trying to get a Vizio VP50HDTV10A working. This is a little long but I wanted to be detailed.

Background on the TV: – FREE - from Craigslist, so the only thing I have at stake here are time and materials. I answered an ad and picked it up from a young professional male, 20 minute drive each way, who told me it stopped turning on. As soon as I got home I opened the back and noticed 10 popped capacitors on the power supply board right away. At that point I think, woo-hoo, this might be easy. I did not bother plug the unit in at the time because with all those...
