Re: HP 2000 screen shorting out
Hey ivtec, Thanks for the response.
I can't imagine why I didn't plug it into an external monitor to test it first.
Just did that and no video out either, so I guess it's in the GPU.

HP 2000 screen shorting out
Hi all,
I do repairs to computers and have just come up against a new issue & wondered if anyone here has experienced this.
Was about to replace a cracked screen on an HP 2000 laptop & before I did, I tried to power it up and had no response. Replaced battery with a known good charged one and same thing.
Tried with known good power adapter, with and without battery, still nothing.
Disassembled machine, unplugged video cable, and it powers up with either battery and/or power adapter.
Plug screen back in, no power and seems to short out power adapter....

Re: Samsung model # PN43D450A2D Black Screen Red Light
Hi again,
My friend put the new y board in and it has stopped clicking, it only clicks a couple of times when he first plugs it in and pauses and clicks a couple more times then stops, red standby lights stay on and no clicks after that.
Where to look next?
Thanks for the help

Re: Factory Resets Listing
This may be a dumb question, but I don't how how else to ask it so...
Is it imperative to have a factory remote to apply a factory reset? or...
Is there a way to accomplish the same thing by opening the set and moving jumpers etc.?
Thanks

VisionQuest LVQ-47HLR-FHD, Model No. 126 Stuck on Test Pattern?
Hi all,
Have a Vision Quest LVQ-47HLR-FHD, Model No. 126 (Rembrant) TV, that when powered on, goes to a test pattern screen that flashes a different test pattern aprx. every 5 seconds or so and will not respond to presses of any buttons, ie: Menu, Input, etc.
The screen seems quite fast to come alive after power on, and also quite bright even in a well sun lit room.
I assume that this tv is an off brand and likely (hopefully), uses some mainstream brand's components?
I have tried so far:
Un-Plugging the tv, for up to several hours &...

Re: One of those laptop threads
Hey Stevo,
I refurb & repair computers for a living.
Mostly laptops & tablets these days.
I can't tell you how many laptops I receive from folks who just want to ditch them for parts, because they've had a hdd crash & went out & bought a new one.
Just a guess, but I'd say that around 50% of the time, tere isn't anything wrong that a bios update, format & re-install doesn't cure.
Then maybe another 25% of them are cured by re-seating and or replacing one or more Ram chips, blowing out fans with...

replace screen? samsung ln40d550k1fxzc
Hi everyone,
I do computer repairs & replace a pile of LCD's & backlights etc. in laptops.
As such, I find it's often not worth the expense & labor.
I just picked up a Samsung 40" LCD new in box but with a cracked LCD screen and was curious to hear opinions as to whether I should butcher it & sell internals or attempt to find a replacement LCD?
I have no idea where to find a 40" or what it might cost.
Your thoughts?

Re: HP 2159m Dead, no power
ckgbmd, I did one not long ago (different make & model) & experienced similar weirdness when I powered it on at first.
Moved it away from PC and connected it to a laptop & it was fine. Moved it back to PC & connected it & was then fine.
Not sure what caused it, but it's good now.
P.S.
Thanks for the post, I am helping a friend to diagnose same monitor now & I believe this will help him

Re: Samsung model # PN43D450A2D Black Screen Red Light
Thanks Tom66,
I have advised my friend (tv owner), that I'm a bit leary of spending his money to buy parts unless I can be 99% certain that I have found the culprit component.
Will keep you all updated though when we decide on course of action so as to help others.

Re: Samsung model # PN43D450A2D Black Screen Red Light
Oops...
In my original post, I mentioned that "If I dis-connect either the x or y board it makes the "samsung" sound and responds to remote turn on / off, but still nothing on screen."
I just went through it all again to double check and I realized I was mistaken.
In fact, it does not make the sound when the Y-main is plugged in, only if the Y-main, or both are dis-connected.
I don't know if this makes any difference to the diagnosis and I apologize for my error.

Re: Samsung model # PN43D450A2D Black Screen Red Light
Wow that was quick Tom66, thanks.
Forgot to mention before, that I also followed one of your guides on jumpering the controller board for test patterns and had no luck.
I pulled & checked the x-main the number on it is LJ41-09478A LJ92-01796A R1.6.
Found one on ebay for $30 that's the same except LJ41-09478A LJ92-01796A R1.8. I assume that is a revision number of one with better components?
P.S.
Just because I'm interested... Can you...

Samsung model # PN43D450A2D Black Screen Red Light
Hi all,
I'm attempting to diagnose a 42" Samsung Plasma model # PN43D450A2D with black screen red blinking light.
When I plug it in, it exhibits the typical relay clicking a few times and nothing on screen, nor any sound.
Visual inspection shows no signs of bad caps leaks or bulging or any other visual overheat issues.
If I dis-connect either the x or y board it makes the "samsung" sound and responds to remote turn on / off, but still nothing on screen.
I checked the single ceramic fuse for ohms with power...
