I covered the point in flux then brought iron close to the flux to heat it up...i then put lead free solder between the iron and the point...the point did not melt....
Bought soldering iron that heats up to 480 degreses.
Working on resistor on my LG plasma 50 inch PSU
So I let it heat up, then put a copper strip between the resistor "nipple" and the iron.
After doing that a bit, i put the iron directly on the resistor "nipple"
Doing that has malformed the nipple some, but simply wont melt it so I can "suck it" up with my vacuum pump.
This is really frusterating. Any advice much appreciated!
Re: Need help figuring out whats wrong with my LG 50PJ350
Well needless to say after a bunch of B.S. the repair shop came up with,They said they made a mistake and there was only 2 defaulted resistors( The exact 2 resistors tom mentioned at the beginning of this thread before I even took the TV into repair, Good call tom!) ... I decided I didnt want to do business with them so I told them dont repair it,and they only took $70 instead of $170...
Well I know the parts I need, and that I need to remove the current resistors and solder new ones on.Can anyone give me any...
Re: Looking for a new TV, what is a reliable, durable brand?LCD,LED or PLASMA?

Re: Looking for a new TV, what is a reliable, durable brand?LCD,LED or PLASMA?
Hmmm well I dont really need a smart tv.If i need internet on my tv i just plug my laptop into the hdmi and use a wireless keyboard/mouse.
Thanks tom.Im seriouslly considering the panasonic u50 or ut50....
Any advice on buying warranties? ive been looking at squaretrade but trying to find something better. They offer 4 years for about $150.You can get repairs done up the retail value of the TV.Pretty sure that 4 years doesnt add itself to the 1 year manufacturer warranty,so...
Re: Looking for a new TV, what is a reliable, durable brand?LCD,LED or PLASMA?
Basically I ment does the u50 and the s50 generally use the same QUALITY resistors, caps, etc?Or is one higher quality than the other?
I mean im sure certain TV brands,or just older models within a brand use cheap, chinese electonic components made to break, hence this forums name,vs. high quality electronic components made to last.
Re: Looking for a new TV, what is a reliable, durable brand?LCD,LED or PLASMA?
Im considering :
1) VIZIO E601i-A3 its a great price and has good reviews. LINK
Re: Need help figuring out whats wrong with my LG 50PJ350
Ok so I brought the TV to a TV repair shop and they are saying that there is 10 bad resistors on the PSU and that they cant solder on new resistors, they have to replace the whole PSU , for $170.....does this sound like something that would happen with the signs I listed? Is it that hard to solder on new resistors?
Re: Need help figuring out whats wrong with my LG 50PJ350
It stays on 1 unless i can manage to bring the very tip of one probe to the very tip of the other probe, and then it will flash random numbers between 80-180
