LG 50" PS3000 plasma suddenly has a very dark/dim screen, still has sound, any ideas?
Hi,
My Lg ps3000 suddenly went very dark/dim so that it is now not even remotely watchable though it still has sound. I'm all but certain that it isn't a y-sus board issue (as I had a spare which shows the same problem). The z-sus is making a constant buzzing/humming noise so I'm thinking that it may be the issue but before I fork out (roughly) £50 on a replacement I'd really appreciate any advice that can be offered.
Thanks....

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
'tis what I thought, the problem is bearable at the mo', I'm not in a hurry so I'll just keep my eyes open for one on the cheap. Really enjoyed tinkering about inside my t.v. think I'm going to open my 32" Bravia (LCD) tomorrow just to have a look, thanks again for all your help.

Sorry just noticed your earlier post, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBR55360701-EAX55361601-LG-50H3-YSUS-YSUS-TV-Board-/160854234752?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_TV_Boards_Parts&hash=item2573a8d680 it claims that it is 'new in opened packaging'.Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopeful...url] it claims

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
Ok thanks, I had looked at replacements, but was concerned that as I could only find 'used' boards for sale I thought there is surely the potential that it could quickly develop a fault? also I think I remember hearing that if you're going to replace the y-sus board you should also replace the upper and lower y buffer board, is that true? or is it not really essential?

I'm happy to chase the fault down but not sure how?Last edited by d-animator; 03-28-2013, 04:47 PM.

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
Ok so I've confirmed that the Vsc is supposed to be +140 and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or I've tested it wrong but the Vsc currently reads 27.9 and the maximum adjustment that I can make only takes it up to 34.4.
Am I testing it wrong (bearing in mind this is all new to me, so this seems likely)? or is the Vsc resistor faulty?...

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
Hmm now I'm fairly new to this side of things so I'm not entirely sure I'm doing this right, I think I've followed the instructions correctly; the Vy came out as -179.8, so far so good I thought, now the Vscan reads +43.3 and not +140!

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
It doesn't seem to have a pink tint... in the 1st image you can see the whiteish ghost like horizontal lines that can sometimes be seen moving up the screen but these can only be seen on dark scenes the other problem can only be seen very close up and then again are more noticeable on the darker scenes. I don't have my multimeter with me at the mo so can't check the voltage but will get it tomorrow and will check that then.

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
Thanks for the responses, not sure what the problem is now. It is actually a lot more noticeable on dark backgrounds rather than white/light...
The dots do not seem to be overly red though it could definately be described as poor picture quality. I've struggled to get the problem to show on any pictures so I've taken a collection of photo's of differing scenes and types of image in the hope that you'll be able to discern the problem. Thanks so much for this it really is appreciated....

Re: 50" LG Plasma-couple of (hopefully minor) problems
Ok so I tried adjusting the SETDN which was very interesting! at one end of the spectrum was the white-ish snow like picture which I've seen as a problem that a lot of people seem to suffer from and the other end or slightly before was the best picture I could get (actually not at all far from the factory setting). It is slightly better (and it wasn't really too noticeable in the first place) but despite adjusting the SETUP and playing with the contrast levels I have been unable to remove it altogether. Does this mean that...
