  • Re: Dell 3008wfp faulty power supply

I have had this same problem and tried to find replacement wires but cant seem to find any....has anyone ever????

As soon as you muck around inside the insulation just crumbles off these wires and it ends up shorting everything out..
I am not even sure if replacing it will even fix it after the fact.....

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

I joined a wile back but don't think i introduced myself properly.

Shamefully i came and learned and fixed and moved on but in the back of my mind i always knew i have badcaps to reference if the need arises... It still feels like i discovered water in the desert every time i come here...

What i learned from this forum and site has been invaluable in making many repairs on many power supplies and monitors. and SO many BAD caps!

It so great to see someone take the time to put all this together...

What type of reading are you expecting? are you using a cap tester? or just ohm meter...
an ohm meter will only show leakage if its set high enough to read that...
trouble with testing caps in circuit with a cap tester is you may get other stray capacitance from surrounding components.. and unless a cap is obviously burned or damaged there is not easy to determine if its functioning.. at least not in circuit..
one of my pet peeves is no markings on a lot of SMD chip caps..

C11 and c 19 on the center area just under the middle heat sink..it worked for me with the same problem..these i think are for the Oscillator section secondary supply ..so the 5 volts to the microprocessor is good but the screen wont power up.. try changing these c11 47uf 50 or 60 volts 105 degree C19 is 22 uf at 50 to 60 volts 105 degree. i fixed two of these this way.......

I pushed a small screwdriver through one of the screw holes on the back side of the metal frame pushing against some of the metal heat sink exposed by the wide screw hole.....whats holding it is just the plastic heat material is stuck down to the heat sink..a little pressure from behind and they come off ok......

  • Re: Dell 3008wfp faulty power supply

Has anyone ever been able to get a schematic of the Power supply...I had two of these monitors down at the same time (think they had been purchased at the same time) and both had the small caps in the Oscillator section go bad..one came back on after just changing the 22uf and 47 uf C11 and c19 BUT one of them i forgot to re-solder the heat sink components back on and powered up and hear this little *snap* and after looking around i found a surface mount zener had popped.(Z23). i was able to see the writing enough to determine its markings..then...

Just joined after searching around for info on bad caps..HA...funny i was just telling a client how most of the repairs i do these days is recapping.. Guess i should not spill the beans but i am as honest as i can be these days in a sea of duplicity (just being a rebel)
Anyway what a great forum for us techy junkies....Yes indeed bad caps!

I hope i can share my vast knowledge and background with all of you....

    Cheers
