  • Albatron px865pe pro II, new problem, electrician help

I sold my Albatron px865pe pro II, to a coworker. I had recapped the board once, with panny fm's, and all is in working order or so they seem. So now the coworker brings me the computer, it doesn't finish the POST. It has a voice genie bios that states "the cpu may have a problem." I have verified that the cpu is in working order, I have cleared the cmos, removed the board, and made sure all caps where secure to no avail. I did get it to post once with a different cpu, then I turned it off. After that it never posted with that cpu or any other again. I need to know if there is a way...

  • Re: The old VP6, need a little help

I figured it out, the heatsink fan combo I was using was to much for the sockets. It flexed the board to much, causing the failed boot. I went back to intel heatsinks and all it well. Man these little boards with 1ghz's p3's run windows media center really well.

Yes this board has all nichicon caps, except for the 4 jacksons I replaced this morning. So I will check the solder joints again, to make sure. Anything else I can check?

  • Re: The old VP6, need a little help

I have tried 4 different power supplies, antec 385w, enlight 300w, ocz modstream 450w, and a sparkle 250w. I recapped the 4 left over jacksons behind the parallel port this morning, no luck. I removed the cmos battery, and cleared the cmos, no luck. I also reflashed the bios, still no luck, is there any special setting in the bios for enabling 2 cpu's? Is there any thing else I can try? Thanks

  • The old VP6, need a little help

Ok, so I traded for what is suppose to be a working VP6, and it did for about 3 hours. I installed 2 p3 1ghz processors 768mb of ram and all was good. Now it will only boot with 1 processor installed, doesn't matter which processor I use or which socket on the board. So I got to looking at the caps, all are nichicon (so they have been replaced at one time or another) except the 4 behind the pararell port. They are still black jacksons, so do you think my booting issue could be from the jacksons, or maybe the nichicon's are bad (they don't show any signs of it). Thanks ahead of time.

  • how to use a DMM to check voltage on power adapter

I have an older laptop that even when plugged in the charging light doesn't come on. I'm suspecting the wall adapter is dead, but I just got a digital multimeter and really don't know how to use it check if the voltage is making it all the way to the adapter plug that plugs into the laptop. Can someone tell me how to use my multimeter to do this? thanks ahead of time

  • Re: 865 Boards Albatron / Asus re Capacitors

Well after alot of reading and tweaking, I figured out what was happening. When I shipped my board back to albatron for repair a while ago, they must have shipped me back a different board. This board will not run the 1:1 memory divider at the bus speeds I wanted, I had to lower the multiplier, and then to compensate ran the ram at cas2. Everything was ok, for about 3 weeks, then my cpu water block developed a crack (rma to thermaltake). The crack leaked fluid onto my video card, shorted it, but I cleaned it up and it seems to be working....

  • Re: Laptop opinion needed

You might try hp or compaq especially the buisness grade, I buy them for my organization. The build quality is really great, and the price is right. I just went to hpshopping.com and customized the zd8000 line, 1900.00 for the specs you listed.

I ran memtest last night, and there were errors on were a screen full of errors on test 5 and it hard locked my computer after 3 and half hours (at the above settings). I guess I should lower the settings to stock and run it again. Oh and the memory is new OCZ PC4800 1gb kit.

  • Re: 865 Boards Albatron / Asus re Capacitors

Ok, so I replaced all the GSC caps, with the panasonic FM's. I booted up the computer, and it stayed up for probably 20 minutes and then rebooted. So it is still doing the same type thing, random reboots (blue screen first). Is there anything else you all can think of? I'm going to try some different ram tonight.

Before all the problems started, I was able to run my computer at the following:
    FSB 275 (equaling 3.3ghz)@ 1.575v
    Memory 1:1 (equaling 550mhz)@ 2.85v
This setup was fast and stable as he...

  • Re: My way to recap

Here is my method, please tell me why I shouldn't do this, it has worked fine in the past. I just heat up both legs of the cap and pull it out when it gets hot enough. Then insert one leg at a time by reheating the solder that is in the holes already. It is fast and easy, and has worked every time.

  • Re: 865 Boards Albatron / Asus re Capacitors

I pulled the board out of the case this morning so that I can inspect the caps. When Albatron recapped the board they used Sanyo WG caps, but they didn't replace all the caps. Their are still some GSC caps by the northbridge and around the AGP slot. I have examined my board pretty closely and it doesn't look like I have any bulging and leaking caps, but there almost has to be some that are bad. Since the rig has the exact same symptoms as before, so do you guys think I should just replace the all the caps or just the left over GSC caps?...

  • Re: 865 Boards Albatron / Asus re Capacitors

I will take some pics tonight. I read your thread, and was thinking of getting the Panasonic FM series as a replacement, but may go with something else. This is the second time this board has had these symptoms, and its really annoying, so I want to get the best caps possible to last the longest. I will going to buy caps with a little higher UF on the same voltage hoping to get more stable power. I just replaced my thermaltake 485 power supply, with a sunbeam 550, so I don't think I have a power supply problem since this was going on...

  • Re: 865 Boards Albatron / Asus re Capacitors

I didn't do the recapping, Albatron did, and I haven't checked out what brand they used, although I did notice they were a different color than the old ones.

  • Re: 865 Boards Albatron / Asus re Capacitors

I have a little input on the the Albatron px865pe pro II, I have had this board for 2 1/2 years and it has been great except for a little problem. Probably 6 months ago, I randoming started having blue screen reboots, I checked everything except the caps. Finally, I checked the caps and 3 or 4 of them were leaking or bulging. So I shipped the board back to the company under warranty (they were slow) but got the board back with 8 new caps. The board has been working well again until about 2 weeks ago, it started the same rebooting. I assume...
