Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
The failure was unlikely to be caused by a power surge. It runs off a 9V battery [PP9].
Those old Callins weren't the most reliable, apparently. However, the radio sparked into life as soon as I replaced that cap with something I had lying around. I also removed the other 3 Callins, which seemed to be working OK, but have replaced them temporarily. I'll be replacing them all with some Panasonic FM 475uf 25v caps in due course.
That small grey cap appears to be OK. I think it's just the way the plastic coating...

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
I recently had a look inside a mates old VHF Skymaster radio, which hadn't worked for years.
Not difficult to spot a problem. This was one of the 4 Callins 400uf 10v caps, dated 6705....

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Yes, I've been reading about the number of different applications for this board, all with their own firmware, so it's unlikely I'll find the correct replacement.
Is it worth pursuing the problem on this board, or am I likely to be wasting my time?
If not, is there anything else I can test?
Note: I've powered it on this afternoon, and initially there was a fair bit of flickering. I've gone through the on-screen menus, trying different picture settings etc. Some settings make it...

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Thanks budm,
Could this have been caused by connecting the TV to a PC via VGA cable... something to do with differing refresh rates?

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
No marks on the board, I'm afraid.
I've attached some pics of the power supply board, if that's any help.
Pics 1 and 2: Top right-hand corner, pin 3 of PL706 is the 3rd pin from the left.
Pic 3: Underneath, 4th solder joint in the row of 6, top left-hand corner.
I can't quite make it out, but I think the schematic says B/L_ON/OFF for pin 3 [top right-hand corner].
Edit: Aha... just found the pdf version of the schematic [attached].
Pin 3 = BKL_ON/OFF...Last edited by oddbodd; 10-29-2014, 11:00 AM.

I'm not sure if they're marked, but I'll have a look tomorrow.

Any clues as to the differences?

Re: Dropped computer
If you've got a spare HDD large enough, it would be a good idea to clone it.

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Well, there's a small fluctuation of about 0.5v on some of the pins.

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Does this mean that the voltage is fluctuating? Should I look at those diodes again?

Yes. When the picture does stabilise, so does the light in the corner.

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
There's a small hole in each of the very top corners. I can see a light flashing, so presumably that's the backlight?...

Without checking, I would say yes, probably, but it'll have to wait for now...

OK, but what what am I looking for?
I have a picture on the screen, but it flashes/flickers rapidly.

What's the easiest way of checking the backlight?

Re: BUSH LED2497ODVDFHD, 17PW80 V2, Dead!
Since the repair, I've tried to use the TV as a PC monitor [VGA connection], but the picture flashes rapidly. It was working OK in TV mode. I've tried different refresh rates, but nothing stops the flashing.
I shall test with an HDMI cable when I have one, but now it's started flashing in TV mode as well. It sometimes stops after a short while with a decent picture, but changing some of the TV settings will start it off again. The rate of the flashing depends on which setting is been changed.
Could it be anything...
