Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
Swapped the T-Con back to the original and all the new problems are still present, so I think I can rule out the T-Con. Also played with freeze spray on all the boards, tab bonds, and re-cleaned all cables and connections with no improvement.
Any chance this can be the tuner/video board before I scrap the set?

Now the set flickers for about 15 minutes, then goes into cascading lines (see video in my last post above) then clears-up altogether (except for the ever-present tiny black lines).
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
Yes - have reseated and cleaned all cables, but it would be worth another try.
This set seems to be going downhill rapidly.
The set now changes the tiny black lines to grey - in a cascading pattern - from top of picture to bottom. Takes about a second, then resets and starts again. It will cause ghosting in fast moving content. Kind of like a waterfall effect.
After about 20 minutes the cascading gets faster and faster, and doesn't go all the way to the bottom. It kind of works it's way to...

Have not had a chance to pull mine apart again yet - hopefully I will within the next few weeks.

Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
Davheel- Just noticed your post - sorry for the delay. The issue has not been resolved, in fact, it has been getting worse. I have been regularly watching this TV as the lines are unnoticeable at normal viewing distance. However, lately the lines seem to have grown thicker and have now filled the entire screen from left to right. Occasionally the top-most four or five lines flicker white.
I think I will swap the old T-con back in and see if there is any change, and check the voltages again.
Any new ideas?...Last edited by mdmccool; 02-18-2014, 08:23 AM.

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
Finally had some time to get to this set. Removed the bad resistor and soldered in a new one. (I am still cross-eyed - that resistor is tiny)! TV works great! Been watching it for a few nights now with no issues! Success!
Thanks again for everyone's help,
Matt

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
Thanks Tom, that helps.
I would also like to replace the cap above the bad resistor in my photo. It seems OK but I don't like the looks of it. It was said that the value should be 1uf. Any idea what size cap I should order?
Also, what type of solder is recommended to use?
Thanks again for all the help,
Matt

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
Hey Guys-
I'm placing an order with Allied Electronics for some other things and I figured I'd pick-up a few resistors to fix this set. Since modern electronics are fairly new to me I'm not sure what I should order. Anyone have any idea what wattage these tiny resistors are? Are they considered "thick-film" type?
Thanks,
Matt

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
Thanks for the info! I checked mine and they are all indeed 82ohm.
Thanks for the explanation - makes sense. Much appreciated.
...Now lets see if I can actually replace this tiny little bugger......

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
I thought the same thing, but the left driver board is quite different and I didn't want to assume anything.
Thanks! Wish they all worked out this way...
Really? All the same value - that's easy. How can you tell? It's not that I don't believe you, I'm just curious....

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
I've finally localized the problem with this set. It has a bad (open) tiny resistor on the right side driver board. If I bridge the resistor with a low value resistor (100 ohm +/-) the TV works fine. I would like to replace it with the correct value resistor and I can't find a service manual or schematic to ID it.
I need to identify RX21 and also CD17.
Anyone have info for an E460ME?
Thanks,
Matt

Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
The "new" t-con could be bad as well, but what are the chances that it would have the exact same defect?
I believe it is a Samsung panel and yes it is a 120hz model:...

Installed new (used) T-con, lines are still present as before. Main board or panel?

Thanks again for the info. Will report back once new t-con is installed.

Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
Thanks Tom, will try the heat and report back.
I'm getting a little confused while searching for a T-con replacement. Seems as if there were two manufacturers: AUO and Samsung. My board is the Samsung. Which number on my T-con is the part number? Is it the 2009FA7M4C4LV0.9 number? These 2009FA7M4C4LV0.9 boards seem to be all over the place and different parts sellers have conflicting compatibility listings.
Just want to make sure if I get a T-con that matches the number I'll be set to go.

Re: Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
Thanks Tom - I'll try to find another T-con. Do you think the slightly low voltage on the 13V line is of concern?
Thanks,
Matt

Samsung LN46B610 Tiny Horizontal Lines
I picked up a Samsung LN46B610 from 2009 that has horizontal line issues. The lines are present on the left side of the screen - top to bottom - and gradually fade away to the center of the screen. Kind of a venetian blind effect. The lines are VERY thin, black (can't see them on black or dark colors), and occur about every quarter inch from top to bottom. The lines seem to be slightly worse when the set is first powered-up - then they fade a bit. They are almost undetectable from normal viewing distances.
I cleaned and reseated all the ribbon cables, gently moved the tabs, etc...

Re: Vizio E460ME 46" LCD Color Bars
I messed around with this set again last night. I thought it would be worth a try to gently heat things up with a heat gun to see if I could get any response. I started with the left panel driver board (the side with the screen defect). After about 30 seconds the vertical bars disappeared and the set played perfectly!!! I let things cool and expected the problem to reappear but it never did. I let the set play for about two hours, cycled it on and off a few times. Let it sit overnight and tried it again this morning and still good.
