Re: What has gotten into me?
I got a question for you guys.
I have on hand a very old Receiver from late 80's.
The brand is called Victoria. The whole unit is silver.
Any idea who made this unit. It's damn heavy.

Re: What brand are these new polymers?
Thanks.
Seems a step backward. They use to use Fujitsu and Sanyo.

What brand are these new polymers?

Recently, Gigabyte has been advertising DS with solid caps. However, these new solid caps doesn't seem to belong to any of the Japanese brands.

Re: Fortron FSP-ATX-400PNF
I have seen testing by others that indicate high ripple with this psu. The primary cap of 820uf 200V is kinda small for a 400w.
I open this HEC 350 watt which have a pair of 1000uf 200V by capxon. This PSU is from 2001. THe secondary caps are domed (fujuyyu caps). I don't know why in this psu use 470uf 35V on and 400uf 25V on the secondary side. I don't think psu need 25 and 35V on the secondary. I will update with picture in the build thread.

Re: Big Shock! GSC Returned!! GSC=Evercon=SACON=apsun?
I got few of these "NEW" Evercon on my video card - Gigabyte 7300GT. These have 100uf 10V capacities. I wonder if they are any harm. It's odd to have these small caps there. It's right beside the video chipset so it's hot there. Are they some sort of filter cap? There are plenty large ones already. Wat's the deal with gigabyte sqeezing 3 of these garbage.

Unfortunately, those 3 little caps are not nichicons in my cas...

Re: Design your Antec PSU
By the way, Antec units have poor ventilation. better ventilation will prolong psus.

Re: Design your Antec PSU
Antec requires pre-paid frieght. It cost me 25 bux to ship to them. With pre-paid frienght = 50 bux. Plus they are gonna give me a low range 400 watt anyway. I can just run to my local shop and pick up a Forton 400watt for 30 bux. This kinda keeps me off from taking the offer. It's just not worth it.

Re: Design your Antec PSU
I got this Truepower 380 watt which blew. The pc that uses it requires a few cycles to start it up. I had to replace the psu and everything is good again.
The problem is these antec are well designed but poor component quality hindered their image. This Truepower performed well initially and went down hill after 2 years.
This PSU just exceed the 3 year warrenty by 2 months and I didn't keep the receipt either. sigh... If Antec decide to finally improve, they should start by replacing the affected psus to re-estabilish their...

Re: Sparkle Power Supplies
I poped a Sparkle FSP 350 three years ago. It got same Teapo caps. I was overclocking this Athlon XP old Pally style at 1.8ghz. CPU was running P95 at 60 Degrees. The PSU was trying to get rid of heat. THen I heard a pop. The main caps are gone.
I think most PSU are good now (except those with Fuhjyyu). The PSUs are overworked. ie. provide power and must get rid of heat from the CPU.

Re: Msi Kt3 Ultra Smt Ooze
I didn't check post until recently.
It's soluble. I think it might be flux from soldering.
This board got Rubycon MBZ as main caps but got like 10 Teapos. There is no buldge on Teapos yet. Should I recap it?

Msi Kt3 Ultra Smt Ooze
Hi guys,
When I inspect my KT3 Ultra's Backside PCB. I discovered this wierd white ooze which has dried. These white ooze surrounds these surface mount transistors on the backside of the PCB near the northbridge. This is pretty wierd as I am now experience random ethernet problem. I figure these white dried ooze around transister must mean something.
My camera is being repaired so I don't have photo.

Re: Elna Bad Cap?
This cap is on a Elsa X1300 video card pci-e. Very recent stuff but according to date code. The elna cap is manufactured in 2004 which is very old stuff. I have no clue why it was used. I thought most computer stuff uses low esr stuff not general purpose.
By the way, the system is running a zippy powersupply with chemicon ky caps. so i am confident that this must be some sort of manufacture defect or expired capacitor (not likely but i heard caps are good for 2yrs shelf life.)

Elna Bad Cap?

hmmm... img attach not working.
This Elna looks bulging. As far as i can see it's general purpose and surface mount so recap is impossible. This is very rare stuff. hmm.
feedback welcome

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
I took a peek and it's all blue fuj. with 2 teapo. I sent an ticket to antec regarding their psu underperforming when compare to another unit and that the 5V rail dipping way too low.
They just closed the ticket on me. I guess ANTEC is a shady company after all. Who would trust these ppl. claiming they now use good caps after many ppl's antec blew up.
Closing a ticket on the customer is just LOW. They must be shitting in their pants thinking: "Damn! everyone knows...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
Recently, I put in an new ANTEC SL350 into my system since old HEC is getting old (5yr and powered numerous previous sytems)
Current sytem spec:
AXP 3200+, ASUS A7N8X DX (power cpu through 5V line), 1GB ram, 2x120gb drive, 9800 pro (power hungry).
the antec built in late 2004 can not power my system reliabily. 5V dipped below to 4.63V or so and when I game or run 100% load, it rebooted.
I put in the 5 year old HEC 350 LD-T (2001) back in and the 5V is at 4.83V idle and 4.76V...Last edited by nsx29; 07-30-2006, 05:53 PM.

Re: The Great Capacitor Showdown - Rubycon vs Panasonic vs Samxon
There is something that i do not understand about samxon caps. Looking at a lot spec. pdf, japanese cap manufacturer (nichicon, chemicon, panasonic) don't seem to make 8mm diameter 1.5cm tall 1000uf 6.3V caps only 820 uf.
So I wonder if samxons are over rated in some way.
