  • Re: Dumpster Computer Find

I found a Toshiba Satellite A 50 laptop and faulty power supply last week near a sportsfield. Somebody has dumped lot of household stuff and this laptop caught my eye.

The power supply had broken DC plug which I cut off. Separated the wires and plugged in the mains power. It worked But I needed to fit a new DC plug.

Toshiba uses 6.5 mm DC plug which are not easy to obtain. Went to local recycling shops but no luck, neither the electronics shop Jaycar had the plug.
Then I remembered that I have an universal laptop...

  • Re: Samsung LA32R81B Washout pictures

I diagnosed it by using cold spray.
What I might try is to make a small heat sink to make it run cooler. At least for testing purposes until I get a new chip....

  • Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Couple months ago I got a free Shuttle XPC SN95G mini PC from Wanaka Wastebusters.
It was missing the top cover, caddy for HDD and DVD-ROM.
When I got back to the shed in Nelson, I tested it. First no picture into monitor but pulled another RAM stick off and tried again. Now I got to BIOS screen, yehaa!
Had some trouble to get the BIOS to recognise the HDD but it must have been the Master/Slave lug in wrong spot?
Installed HDD and DVD-ROM and installed latest Ubuntu Linux. I had problems with display card. I cleaned the...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hello fellow geeks,
I call myself Henry nowadays as my Finnish name Heikki is too hard to most english speakers as I live in New Zealand now.
I have been into electronics all my life pretty much. I started pulling things apart when I was a little kid back in Finland. Then it was old valve radios and one Ericsson wall phone which was not antique then but will be now.
I repaired my first valve radio when I was about 6 years old! there was a broken wire which I reattached and the radio came alive! It must...

  • Re: Rhapsody RY-610 Multiband radio - need schematic\photos

    Hi Agent24,
I also live in New Zealand and got this Technica/Venturer/Radio Shack 2959-6 on my worktable to get fixed.
I work volunteering for MenZ Shed Richmond and I do not get paid anything for this job but I might get a hand with some woodworking on my van in return.
The problem is exactly same as yours so I assume it could be the amplifier IC?

Did you find a schematic somewhere?
Did you have any IC's left as you got six from Switzerland?

    I have another...
