Re: Alpine 7525 car stereo
Will scan that part of the schematics. But for now I have a more immediate problem. How do I get this particular screw between the board and case out?. It will not budge and I have found at least one holding the tape player on the board that is troublesome. If I can't get these out the rest is moot.
thanks again...

Re: Alpine 7525 car stereo
Haven't gotten that far but upon opening the unit I see 2 suspicious looking capacitors; I assume the two with "goo" at their base are shot. Is that correct? It's the first time I've seen any like that. Here's picture.
When I look them up on the schematics they are in the pre-amp/amp part of the system so makes me wonder if they're the culprit.
The screwdriver points to the "stuff".Any help is appreciated.
thanks...

Alpine 7525 car stereo
I have an Alpine 7525 stereo that looks perfect in our 87 Volvo 250. It has stopped powering on and am wondering what type of component would be shot to cause this. It's not the car as another stereo works fine in the car. And there is an in line fuse that I tested and it's fine And I also bench tested the unit by connecting wires directly to a car battery and still didn't power on.
So any ideas of what to address are appreciated
thanks

Re: APC UPS backup clicking noise
OK Measured voltage couple of times;meter showed 117 volts one time and 120 another. When I had the UPS connected to the computer with its software loaded it indicated the voltage at 117 volts
I would think if it was the voltage difference itself it would have done it when the unit wasn't as old; the clicking is like a rapid fire type;it's not an occasional noise .After I posted this question I found the following post on the APC site that has me thinking maybe I should try replacing the capacitors

Re: APC UPS backup clicking noise
thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware of the ability to manually change the sensitivity;I had been doing it via the power chute software. Anyway I attempted it per the manual instructions you posted and still no change.
I'm guessing it's just shot but thought it might be a component like a capacitor I could replace. I did open the case and saw no obvious damage like burned components or bulging capacitors.
Anything else I could consider before trashing it?

APC UPS backup clicking noise
I have a XS900 that was lying around and had not used for a couple of years. I just bought new batteries and the thing operates;however after awhile it made the same aggravating clicking noise that irritated me in the past. Per info on the APC website I adjusted the settings to reduce the sensitivity and still no change.
From what I've read this can be fairly common on some APC ups's;I haven't found the issue to be present on other brands.
Is there some electronic component that might be shot that I could replace?
I hate to just toss it out
thanks

Re: Dell Dimension 4700 MB
I'm back to the MB and progressing fine with the replacements.Have 3 more questions.First some of the capacitors are Rubycon.Where they also have the production problems back in 04-05 time frame?
Second a couple of the caps I have bought have a diameter a little larger than the original.Does that present a problem? Third are the chip type caps likely to fail also?
thanks again

Re: Dell Dimension 4700 MB
Guys thanks again for the help.Health problems have prevented me from further working on it but now am better and am ordering more capacitors. I know in a previous post that I was ready to chuck the motherboard but I'm so intrigued by the possibility that for a few $ I might have the PC working again.
This time I'm ordering about 20 more various through hole sizes and will what that does.
I'll let you know after I'm finished.
thanks again!

Re: Dell Dimension 4700 MB
I did some more looking at the mb and am wondering about some of the smaller caps;they have no vent lines on top.In the first picture there are 5 smaller ones;one is at the end of the PCI slot and has a reddish tint and then there are 4 others in kind of the "11:00 position" on the board under a mb screw hole.
In the second picture it's in the center of the picture forward of the power slot.
Please advise.
thanks again...

Re: Dell Dimension 4700 MB
Got the recommended capacitor from digikey. System still does not boot. I'm about to just replace the mb but did reexamine the other capacitors and am wondering about some other ones.
I have picture of one of them and am wondering if it is shot;it's the one to the left of MB screwhole. There are some others like it.I don't know if the coloration on the cap surface is a sign of being shot or just a defect of sorts with the surface paint. If this not these then I'm just tossing the board.
thanks again...

Re: Dell Dimension 4700 MB
Could someone direct me to the particular capacitor on one of the reputable sites? I look at sites mentioned on Capacitor Lab and honestly I get lost on some of the sites with the options to sort. I'm looking for a 3300 microfarad/6.3v capacitor.
thanks
