• Re: Asus A7n266 - interesting problem

Holy moses. You guys are all right - i didn't even realise when i pulled them off i just assumed they were like every other board.

This asus board does use a reverse polarity the white marking is in fact positive NOT negative... i just took it for granted that that's how it is without even checking (as i normally do).

some new caps and in the right way and i should be right as rain.

i was told by a number of different sources that the mosfets just above them are probably putting out...

• Asus A7n266 - interesting problem

Hi all,

Have just recently recapped a blown Asus A7n266-VM motherboard.
Everything booted fine - with no problems and the PSU checked out ok.
Had the system running for about 15 minutes until i realised that three of the eight caps i had changed had started to bulge.
Thought it was a bit odd as i have never had this problem (the Samxon caps i use are pretty damn good) and thought it must have been my soldering work perhaps they weren't positioned very well.
Looked on the board and noticed i forgot to install two caps above them (!). so i installed the...

• Re: MSI 6378v1

mate the thing powers up just fine... it's a case of lights on but nobody's home.

have done everything with it and changed the caps for the hell of it but still no juice so i ended up repairing a badcap biostar with the same chipset and replacing it with that.

writing the board off it's not worth my time!

cheers anyway bro.

• MSI 6378v1

hey,

board just decided to stop booting altogether after a system freeze in outlook express.

the caps appear to be in good condition yet it is running teapo's which i would presume are likely to be bad. No bulge on top and none underneath that i can see... they are mounted reasonably high and don't quite sit flush on the board like the other caps on there so was wondering if they would likely be the cause?

any help appreciated.

cheers,

• MS6178 Ver1.1

Hey all,

the board in question has a bundle of Tayeh caps .. 1000uf 6.3v, 1000uf 10v and 1500uf 10v.. i thought two of those caps had blown (some of the 1500uf 10v caps) but at further inspection i have noticed that although they are right next to the tayeh caps it's actually two Lelon of Pelon 1500uf caps. They look almost identical in pattern and colour.
after i removed them they had left some brown discolouration on the board underneath.
my question is given that the only two blown caps on the board the Lelon's would i be safe to assume that the tayeh caps are alright?...

• Re: Two MSI 6163 Pro cap problems...

i had a similar problem that you experienced with the first msi mainboard in that the diagnostic leds indicated bad ram.
it was pretty intermittent and varied when i changed the slot that the ram was plugged into so i just cleaned the contacts of the dimm slots and the ram with an old toothbrush and some electrical contact cleaner.
board worked a treat after that.

Your situation sounds a bit more involved with the loss of voltage to the dimms so i don't know if it will help. Never hurts to try though i suppose....

• Re: msi-6309 what caps can i used instead of 2700?

i managed to order panasonic aluminium electrolytic, low impedance, radial, wire ended 6.3V 2700uF (Miniature Low Impedance FC Series 105°C) RS Stock No. 315-0265 (took that from the website)

and the same again in 1000uf. RS Stock No. 315-0243 to replace the bulging 1000uf (i just noticed all 9 of them bulging).

willawake recommended them in this post https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=729
so i managed to get them from rs australia in osbourne park.

thanks...

• Re: msi-6309 what caps can i used instead of 2700?

great thanks davmax. btw hello from perth wa
i have a local repair agent who can get hold of the caps for me except he doesn't have the 2700's in stock and says they are a bit hard to come by.
i noticed farnell have 2700s and jaycar have caps as well.
if i had more time i'd order some 2700s but you're saying i can use 2200s in their place? what about 3300s? i was told that i need to use exactly the same rated microfarid capacitor. is this true?
cheers bro

• msi-6309 what caps can i used instead of 2700?

hi all,

the caps on the board are 2700 6.3v and i need to change a total of 4 out of 4. i'm having difficulty getting hold of this type here in australia so i was wondering what other ones i can use? can i use 3300 6.3v instead? any others?
thanks
