Re: Bad PSU shutting down my PC
If the PC is reseting during load, and heating the PSU temporarily fixes the issue, then capacitors are the most probable culprit. Just replace the capacitors on the secondary side with equvalent long life ones with at least 105°C rating. Manufacturer put a bunch of wires over them blocking the airflow and overheating them, causing them to prematurely fail.

Re: ONKYO TXNR609 no sound unless you heat up
Could be an electrolytic capacitor in the protection circuit or somewhere else. If you heat an elecrolytic capacitor, its ESR decreases all the way down to 1/10. You could try the divide and conquer technique; heat up individual boards untill you find which one is it, then, heat up half of that board, and then a quarter...
Just don`t heat capacitors too hot or too long, is will shorten their lifespan and they even may explode.

Re: Acer AL1717, slow to turn on
ESR of electrolytic capacitors decreases with rising temperature. So if you have a device that starts working or starts working correctly after a "warm-up" period it is probably a capacitor.

Re: BenQ GW2255 - White screen.
White screen is probably due to no voltage on T-Con board. Check the SMD fuse on the T-Con board, if blown, replace and check the SMD bypass capacitors for shorts/low ohm faults.

Re: Dell U2412Mb
Lelon RXW are low esr, high ripple, 105°C 5000-7000 hrs lifetime capacitors, which is pretty top spec for SMPS power supplies. Can`t tell the series of the Elite one, but it is usually pretty got as the main filter capacitor. Only the China Foai are "low quality", but 2.6 -2.9ohm for 10uF 25v general purpose capacitor is not too high.

Re: curious about capacitor checkers.
$134 is too much; here it is for $27 including shipping:

But, it will only test capacitance, not ESR or anything else.
If ~$120 is within your price range, take a look at DER EE DE-5000.Re: curious about capacitor checkers...0d329c0e[/url]

Re: Asus VW223
I found a MMBD3004BRM-7-F, soldered it to a sot-23 adapter, glued it to the panel board, soldered small jumper wires from point to point and the VGH rose to 25V, VGL drop to -0.5V. The monitor seemed to work, but the display was very dim. After the cracked inductor was replaced, it finaly worked as it should.
I am sorry, I could not take photographs, but here is an image of the sot-23 adapter....

Re: Asus VW223
Further thoughts:
Based on circuits on pictures 2 and 3, the component could look like picture 1.
But it does not seem to exist, so I am obviously desperate.
Or is it just 2 diodes, with pin 2 and 5 NC?...

Re: Asus VW223
Here is the picture without the component.
Pin 2 is AVDD1 13.26V, pin 5 is ground.
I suppose the circuit should generate VGH1 and VGL1 signals, and the diodes are a part of a charge pump. So budm may be right....Last edited by AkumAone; 05-08-2013, 03:33 AM.

Re: Asus VW223
Thanks for the replies.
I dont think it is the same component.
None of the pads are connected.

Asus VW223
Due to being an idiot, I have destroyed a component and have no idea what is was.
I remember measuring 0.6V drop across upper and lower legs, but a short in the middle, so i thought it was shorted... but after removing it, I still head a short. Then I found the shorted capacitor, but lost the removed component.
It is on the T-Con board (on a Chi Mei panel), a SOT-23-6 package device, marked as D2. DNʀ is printed on the case.(or is it?)
The middle left leg is ground, middle right in the output of the boost converter
Does anyone have any tips,...Last edited by AkumAone; 05-07-2013, 01:02 PM.
