most useful info I have found so far possibly pointing to the thermistor

Klipsch Sub 10 BASH amp blowing fuses
Hi all, I have a Klipsch Sub 10 that was given to me that would not power on. I checked the fuse and sure enough it was blown so, I replaced it and blew another without any input even hooked in to it.
So far searching around reveals most of these seem to have this problem, and the main solution has been to return the amp to klipsch to be fixed, or pay to replace (now over $120). That's not good enough for me
I found two threads that one pointed to one set of components, another thread pointed to another. Since I had sutable replacements around already I replaced...

LG 60PK540 2 1/2" black horizontal bar... should I buy it :D
Seen a LG 60PK540 for $100 somewhere that has a 2 1/2" black horizontal bar going across it on the bottom half of the screen...I'm tempted to get it thinking it might be just a buffer board problem. I know in the pas I have seen the entire bottom or top half go... but not just a bar like this. The boards were about $20
what do you thinkworth biting on? see attached pic...

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
Walked away for a bit to try and clear my head.
One off thing I noticed, I said earlier that the sc board led would not light up, but oddly when I went to take that board out for testing and removed the connector that supplies the vsus and vbk the led would light for a moment, plug back in it would light briefly again...
Anyway went back on the service manual and started looking and missed one point asking me to check voltages on the dboard. On connector d6 pin 2 and 3 I should be...

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
lifted both legs (source and gate) and tested, each one appears to be good
Testing used:
meter set to diode
Black on Drain at all times
put red on source get reading (all about 453) the put red on gate all read OL, put red back on source hear tone reading goes up showing gate closed and back to 453 or about that.
tested the FS7VS 14a as well each showed ok with the above testing (assuming that testing was correct.

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
makes a bit more sense now(again it's all a learning process) with them off the board and explains why I wasn't getting what I should have when reading on testing.
When I pulled the (for the heck of it one of the 2sk2993's) FET off (meter in diode mode)
Black on drain red on source 453 reading
black on drain red on gate OL hold for a second or two, move red back to source not removing black off drain you see the reading raise up slower back to 453 meaning it closed the...

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
Spent time last night and this morning trying to learn more about these FETs and testing
I went a bit further down and found the following (pic attached and components circled in red)
again still trying to learn so I may me measuring wrong
Mitsubishi MOSFET FS7VS 14a
The two circled ones with meter in Diode test mode
Red on source black on gate I get a reading of 653 on the meter, the others not circled I get OL on meter

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
I typically find lots of items being thrown away or sold dirt cheap, and I always wanted in the past to take anything I could get just to open it up and poke around... but I never did and regret so many items I have passed up. Combine that with things I have had in the past that have died and it depresses me to think about it all.
Really any TVs or items I get for free and end up fixing I'll more than likely donate to other people that otherwise couldn't afford one. There are quite a few people around...

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
Hmmm... tried looking up how to test this properly and not sure I am doing it right
meer on diode test mode
Between gate and source I get ol on all
Red on source and black on drain I get a reading of 454 and reading how to test from there seems to be throwing me off....
edit:
sorry tablet was dying lol
fluke was thown out years ago. I finally got tired of seeing wasted electronic devices and started tinkering with them and trying to learn what...Last edited by nintari; 01-25-2013, 10:00 PM.

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
Yes getting odd readings from a few of them
In particular the one pictured in the lower left (picture rotated on upload) is reading 159.9v out while all the others were at 13.9v.... but now none of them are reading out.... not sure if I accidentally shorted something or if something overheated further lol...

Re: Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
just got hold of the service manual and am reading through it now to get some ideas and thoughts.
Sadly I don't have this set here with me at work so I have to wait until tonight to check in to it.
Thanks for the tipI will look in to that.
Just now realized I'm going to have to pickup a decent multimeter. I can't keep borrowing the one from work lol. mine was an older fluke I picked up from a yard sale but it has long been dead.

Project 2: Panasonic TH-42PW4UZ green light on, nothing on screen
Found another project to work on and learn from
Panasonic EDTV Model TH-42PW4UZ
Symptoms: Unit powers on, you hear a relay click, green LED on front indicates Unit is on, nothing happens on screen at all....? No light no image, no distortion... nothing. I left the unit on for a while and I think it went in to standby mode since there were no inputs attached. The light went from green to red, stayed red steady, blinked 6 times, then steady on the last. I don't think this is an error code since it took a long time for it to do this.
I am in the process of...
