Re: eMachines E732 won't boot
Ok, tried another CPU with no effect.
Tried it initially without RAM or drives, onboard screen cable unplugged (used an external screen) - same symptoms.
Plugged in each of the above one at a time - same symptoms each time.
Power button & DC jack are both on the mobo, not separate plug-in assemblies.
At a bit of a loss over what to try next with this one...

eMachines E732 won't boot
Hi guys,
I have an Acer eMachines E732 laptop that's giving me problems. It was left powered down for a week while I was on holiday and was stone dead (absolutely nothing happening when power button pressed) when I got back. I tried my spare battery & a different charger - no joy. I decided after a Google session that the motherboard was possibly borked and acquired a new one. It's showing some signs of life now but still won't boot.

Dell Optiplex 745 SFF PSU Recap Questions
Hi guys
The charity that I volunteer with seems to getting a lot of small form Dell 745 (model DCCY) machines with failed PSUs. I've examined a few and the one in the (hopefully!) attached photo is pretty typical of what I've found.
The caps circled in red are visibly blown. The ones circled in green aren't visibly blown. The ones circled in blue are coated in glue and I can't see if they are blown or not.

Dell Optiplex SFF PSU Tester compatibility
Hi guys.
Does anyone know if the PSUs in SFF Dell Optiplex machines can be tested with a standard PSU tester (eg Thermaltake Dr Power II or similar)?
The charity I volunteer for seems to get a lot of 745's (mostly Pentium D, but some C2D's as well) donated with dead/missing PSUs. We sometimes get boxes of stray PSUs with them and it would be useful to be able to test them prior to fitting.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Scruff.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi guys.
I'm pretty new to the technical/repair side of computing. For the last couple of years I've been a volunteer with a small charity that cleans & repairs donated IT equipment and sends it to schools, colleges, medical centres, community projects etc. in Africa.
Most of the stuff that we get would otherwise be scrapped and needs a fair bit of careful work to be ressurected. I've found a lot of really great tips on this forum that have not only helped to fix troublesome machines but also...
