• Re: BenQ Q22W6 Capacitor Replacement

Always a "Teach'en"moment when budm stops by.... Thanks for the info guys and I'll try and test those CCFL's soon but might be a few days as I'm in the middle of a "Pool" rehab for the summer.

budm.... I'am assuming by "Pairs" you mean test the top 2 together and then the bottom 2? Not one of each...Correct?

Sorry rddube as I meant to get back sooner with those numbers but it's been a busy week. Anyway I did get a new meter and tested those points again and they are reading 396 ohms and 392 ohms which I think you referred to as Ok as they were in the ball park.

If not let me know...but unless you have another idea or area to check on that board I guess I'll have to try constructing a CCFL tester per Budm's thread and see if those are a problem. Was really hoping those bad capacitors were the problem but it looks like something...

  • Re: BenQ Q22W6 Capacitor Replacement

That was my thought as well but proved worthless. The board only has component numbers stamped for the components. No Brand, PCB numbers or any other writings or markings on either side of the board.

Anyway after I opened it up... I noticed damage from the 10amp/COM to the board. Burnt through the wire connecting from the steel rod plane to the motherboard, fried one leg of the steel bar (which is now black and corroded because of high heat) , and melted the plastic contact points where the steel bar rests so there...

    Hey rddube,

Not sure what's going on with this old 1980's meter I borrowed from my Dad but I'm going to try and get a new one this weekend. Those numbers I posted were indeed in "Kilo Ohms" and when this meter is set to just Ohms I get 100.0 with the "1" flashing on all four of those pins....which I would assume is a "Open" circuit.

Would both inverter transformers go at the same time or is something else in that circuit breaking the connection. I'm just not trusting this multimeter...

Thanks rddube and I'll look at that thread. As for the Inverters I got a reading of .387 on the top and .383 on the bottom (Ref your pic) so I'm assuming they are fine as both numbers are close?

I did previously look at Budm's thread but I have no spare CFL's to test with so I'm kinda doing the hit and miss thing on locating the problem.

    **Note**

Going to do some cleanup in that inverter area and maybe re-float the pins. I bought this monitor new but it almost seams like someone...

Apologies for being stupid at electronics....but would you be kind enough to circle the pins I need to test on my picture?

Still trying to learn how to ID things like "Inverter Transformer", "Backlight Inverter", "Transformer"...etc. and how they are connected through the circuitry on the board and which are the "in" and "out" power pins as this is only the second monitor I've attempted a fix for.

Hard to find a breakdown of a simple LCD monitor motherboard...

    Update:

Well Cap replacement went ok (though I lifted one trace a little that I had to fix) but the issue remains. The BenQ logo comes up for a sec....goes black..then the desktop...then black again with the Green LED on.

Looked for that C5707 Transistor listed in the sticky but could not find on my board. Little concerned by the discolored heat areas on the power board....but I'm now looking at the logic board also.

Nothing stood out (No bulging caps, burnt parts..etc) but was noted on the pictures...

Not yet rbdube. All parts are in but I'm awaiting a return for a defective soldering iron and my Rosin flux from Amazon (thought I had some but didn't)....as it appears that no one...and I mean no one carries Rosin based flux for electrical work in my area.

Should happen this week once everything gets here....

Sorry...I Meant can you suggest one (The Cap). Anyway I'm going to include this one in my order... https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/nichicon/UPZ2W121MHD/493-11308-ND/4319373

Please let me know if that one will work fine (UPZ series) or do you recommend another series?

    *Note*

Slight concern about the smaller size and length of leads.Re: BenQ Q22W6 Capacitor Replacement.../4319373

Thanks for your input rddube! I was changing them all except the primary cap as it usually isn't a problem. If you think it needs replaced can you suggest a replacement on DigiKey?

I could not find one under the Panasonic brand. And what kind of glue (or something I have at home) holds that cap down?...

    Gents,

Going to be ordering these later today and still need advice on my replacement choices....specifically that FOAI CD112A Cap as I'm unfamiliar with that name brand and it's markings (Chinese Maybe).

    Thanks!

  • BenQ Q22W6 Capacitor Replacement

    Greetings All,

I need advise on another monitor project that requires capacitor replacement and need to make sure I'm ordering the correct parts and to confirm I'm looking at the correct problem/diagnosis.

    Monitor: BenQ Q22W6
    Board Ver: 4H.03V02.A02

Problem: A few days ago the monitor (using as TV now) went blank and the green signal light stayed on. The monitors menu and picture would pop up for a second or two and then go blank. After investigation when you hold a flashlight up to the screen you can see the picture in the...

Thanks guys for all your help!

@retiredcaps... Only 3 or 4 bad traces in 2.5 years? I tied ya in about 15 min in 1 repair.....lol. After the first screwup I did diagram each trace and to which componet it was connected. Came in handy when I screwed up again...hahahaha.

@momaka... I did use 60/40 so I hope it holds. Came up fine this morning and it's pretty cold here in PA so it should hold the hot/cold cycle ok.

@jetada123... As did I. I expected it take a tad longer to heat the solder but...

OMG what a nightmare I got myself into.

Where to start... Well the caps arrived in the mail today so I decided to go ahead with the recap job. As I told LJ7 I've spent the last few days practiceing on a few motherboards but also on a few ATX power supplys as those are single side boards which this PSU is so I was pretty much ready.

So what happens on the first cap desolder..... BAM!! Lift the solder pad breaking the trace right off the board using the needle method to open the hole. Solder was...

Thanks Momaka. I could not find anything on the caps that said Chemicon but I did see the KY so that's likely them. As for that 22u/35v on the power board that's already on the list to be changed out.

I figured that "Mess" was just flux and won't deal with it unless I decide to change those caps out but I'll have to decide what to do about those other three you mentioned (C74, C77, C8) as I didn't see them being so problematic on this thread so I didn't order them for this power issue so I may wait and see what becomes...

Well this just keeps getting better and better. The monitor would not come up today so I tore it apart again today to see if something came unpluged as I had it apart a day or so ago getting cap ratings.

I'm still pretty sure my issue is related to the caps on the PSU and I have them (8 on PSU 2 for LB) on the way, but discoverd a mess today on the logic board (see pics). As I stated before this monitor was already in for warranty repair for a "Fuzzy Screen" issue so I'm asumming this is their fix.

Almost forgot. Since I've been paying so much attention to getting this power issue fixed there was 1 other issue I forgot to mention about this monitor. When it starts and the bios loads there is a click sound and when windows loads it clicks again. Does not do this when changing resolutions and has done this since I got it back from Hanns-G warranty repair.

I don't remember this issue on my orginal monitor so I'm hopeing it's tied into this cap issue so it gets solved in the process or maybe it's normal and I just remember...

    Thanks LJ7.

That would be C80 and C83 (Both 100U/16V) on the main board correct? He had a few more highlighted on the back of some of his pics but those were the ones he seamed to be working on in that link you posted and I put this monitor back together so I just need to confirm those cap ratings and locations.

    C80 and C83 100U/16V http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/EEU-FR1C101/P14391-ND/2433525...
