Will keep that in mind -- thanks again. We'll probably pull the trigger on a purchase soon (odds are another plasma, haha). Trying not to let that Panasonic debacle unfairly bias future purchases.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
I find myself arguably torn over the plasma vs. LED rivalry. I like the way LED's look (bright colors, none of the "dithering" with plasmas) but plasmas tend to be cheaper from what I see and I've heard from multiple sources that they are still superior (which is why we bought the Panasonic plasma to begin with). I may just need to go back and see your earlier reply, but what is the primary reason for choosing plasma over LED? Is it simply that the dithering does not bother?

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
The space of the room is such that a 55-60 inch is appropriate (and it is also in line with the guidelines I've seen posted elsewhere on the net for HDTV's). Any smaller and it gets awkward, IMO (it's for the main living room across from our couch).
PS: Added a Samsung above, btw, although I believe I recall you saying to avoid those.
Thanks for the amazingly fast response!

Hey it's me again -- we finally got around to heading to Costco. Took some pics of some of the 55-60 inch models that looked interesting and wanted to get your guys' opinions.
I don't know specifically what I would need, but I'd like the ability to connect a laptop/PC/etc to the TV and broadcast its screen/sound if need be (for when I want to play my SNES emulator mainly). We've got a cable box, PS3, and Wii. I think this means we need Component-in (or Composite, whichever one is better...Last edited by KongRubix; 02-09-2013, 04:40 PM.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
We bought it through Amazon using the Amazon Store Card (so we basically paid off the full thing over a few months at no interest)
Will keep this in mind... again might be hard for the gf (her entire family buys nothing but Samsung LED's)...Last edited by KongRubix; 12-22-2012, 04:03 PM.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
It might be hard to get my girlfriend to agree to another plasma-screen, haha -- but I'd like to not let this one setback paint all plasmas as unworthy or anything. I'll definitely check Costco out.
If I were to get another plasma, are there any brands/specific models you might recommend? And if I absolutely had to settle for an LED, are there any you like or do you think those TVs are inherently inferior to plasmas?Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7

I too am not a fan of the unnatural look (on my TV this was called the Motion Smoother or something like that -- I think it interpolates frames to give that "fluid" look but it's really more of a "uneven-rate fluidity" if that makes sense. Things move and flow in ways that they shouldn't, IMO). Is this the same thing you're talking about?

I did. Mentioned it was an extremely common issue, what typically causes this problem, when I bought it, how much it cost, how long Panasonic advertises its TVs should last vs. how long mine lasted, etc.Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
Called back
Apparently I have to get the repairguy they referred to me last time to come out and do a cost evaluation of the labor/parts/etc. They then gave me an email to send proof of purchase, cost evaluation, and case number to -- then they'd assess compensation/accommodation.
At this point I'm really not sure. It's still going to cost a lot just to get the guy to come out here (and this assumes compensation out of warranty).Last edited by KongRubix; 12-22-2012, 02:50 PM.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
I'm not terribly good at negotiations -- I had mentioned to them that this was the 7-blinking-lights problem but they insisted that because it was out of warranty, they couldn't do much: "Aahhh... that's unfortunate, yeah... etc". Should I be saying something else?

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
I bought this TV in mid-July 2011 (the set itself seems to have been made in June 2011 according to the back-sticker). Warranty has been expired for about 5 months. I had called in to the Panasonic support line, but they told me they couldn't repair since the warranty was up -- but they gave me the address/number of an independent repair service center about a mile away.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
Yeah that's why I bought this plasma (heard LED's were overrated, backlit LCD's), but it seems like the picture had better quality (even my plasma had a bit of "graininess" to it whereas the LED's looked sharp and bright).
I'm worried about repairing; looking at

Seems awfully expensive (and I live here in Manhattan where getting someone to come out would be insanely pricey, on top...

Haha, indeed not.
I'm not sure if I should just consider this a lost cause and buy a new LED TV or something.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
When I try to turn it on, still the 7 red lights unfortunately (I can see from underneath)
Anyhow, when I turn it on:

Area in red starts to hum a bit (normal sounding hum, like a TV turning on, can't tell which part exactly)
Hum stops, area in green clicks twice and then the red light on the front of the TV starts to blink.

Re: 55 inch Plasma Viera (VIERA TC-P55GT30) not turning on. 7 blinking red lights.
Unhooked and reseated the white connectors on the SU/SD boards to SC board (SC41-SU41, SC46-SD46, SC42-SD42)
EDIT: Unplugged and replugged in the white thing with the white/brown cord
According to the manual it is the "connector" SC2.
Still can't figure out how to disconnect the "flexible cable" SC20. There's a thin black-top cap thing I can flip up but I don't want to pull on anything and tear it (no idea what I am doing) -- the cable itself...Last edited by KongRubix; 12-22-2012, 11:58 AM.

I know you probably know all this, I'm posting this more so for my own sanity/mapping things out:
