• Re: Railway locomotive mother board

Good question... I don't really know. The tech's who've asked for it are worried that their replacement board isn't going to work, so they've asked me to find out if it is possible to recondition the original one, just in case... I think I'll need to post a photo to explain exactly what I mean.

  • Railway locomotive mother board

    G'day Guys,

My work has a motherboard (in the very strict sense of the word) that goes into a Rail Locomotive. They have asked me to find out if anyone is able to 'recondition' this particular motherboard.

They've had a fairly impressive go of an in house solder job so it will need cleaning up....

Do you guys know of anyone who will recondition this type of board. This board doesn't have much in the way of componentry, its just a board that a whole bunch of other cards and ribbon cables plug into.

I can post a photo if you like but I...

  • Re: Thermaltake PSU

Thanks guys. As I suspected. I was half tempted to buy them any way but then I read a review on http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/ any they really hit one of the thermaltake models hard. So... I now how have to figure out how much my customers are going to want to pay for quality... rather than the cheaper PSU's they can get from down the road.

BTW: will a decent PSU protect a Motherboard that is already showing signs of Cap Leakage?

    Cheers,

    Robes.Re: Thermaltake PSU

T...s I suspected.

  • Thermaltake PSU

What are your thoughts on Thermaltake Power supplies.

I have been thinking of ordering some for some people up here who are having power supply issues. We have a small diesel powered power station here that is not always so reliable and people seem in the last couple of weeks to have lost their power supplies. I can buy them at $40 each (430 Watts) but I was wondering if there was anything generally wrong with them. Are they at the bottom end of the *passable* PSU's or are they at the top end of *crappy* PSU's. The one I am thinking of getting is a W0084, 430Watt PSU.

  • Re: Start up kit.

    Good to meet you Stevo,

Weipa is on the (the gulf side) Western Cape York peninsula, probably about four hours drive south from the tip. The 'barge' thing probably threw you. We don't have an 'all weather' road from Cairns to here so we end up having to have it barged over the cape and around to us for six months of the year during the wet season. We mine mainly bauxite which we send to alumina refineries like the ones in Gladstone.

Do you keep a supply of Caps or do you order them on an as needs basis? For instance, could I order...

  • Start up kit.

    G'day Guys (and ladies),

<Long bit of background, actual question coming...>
I currently live in a remote town in Queensland, Australia and have started doing some basic parts replacement and troubleshooting as a bit of a sideline business (My day job is IT also). I've been reading recently on this bad caps forum and have been intrigued about 'actually' repairing a motherboard as opposed to replacing it. This would be ideal for me because if I have a supply of caps and that's all that's needed to get a customer back up and running then it certainly beats waiting two...
