Re: What are these caps?
They're within 20% tolerance, so should be okay....

Re: Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA Tab bonding repair
Thinner is better, as long as the parts are in good mechanical contact.
And you definitely want to use electronics silpads instead of some other materials -- the silpads are designed to conduct heat, other materials might actually be counterproductive by insulating instead of conducting and/or not holding up to the heat.

Re: Tested seller for dodgy caps, all seems good..
Dodgy caps won't necessarily be "off" when they're brand new.
It's a bad electrolytic formula that shortens their lifespan (part of which is a degeneration in capacitance once in use).

Re: Altec Lansing 5100 subwoofer speakers rip themselves!
Dry rot.
It might be possible to get them re-coned/refoamed.
This place has both kits and service: http://www.simplyspeakers.com/Re: Altec Lansing 5100 subwoofer spe...ers.com/Last edited by Blargh523; 01-06-2013, 09:15 AM.

Re: Microsoft's Biggest Blunder
Which I never understood. Admittedly, I tweaked it to look like 2k....

Re: Analog meter
I like an analog for hunting intermittent issues.
I'm still using a Radio Shack 22-215 from the 90's.

Re: Microsoft's Biggest Blunder
Is Oracle even funding OpenOffice now that's it's been handed over to Apache?
Either way, I'm switching to LibreOffice -- AFAIK, the development is far more active....

Office 2007 is why I switched to OpenOffice....

Re: Future Laptop Upgrade
I'd be wary of HP - some of their models had some rather poorly designed cooling and tended to eventually cook the graphics.

Re: Microsoft's Biggest Blunder
I voted ME the worst, as it was bug-ridden and completely unstable, although 95.0 (original release) had some serious problems, and Vista was quirky as all get out.
I loved 2k, then went to XP64 when I got a dual-core machine, then up to W7 when I installed an SSD, and will be skipping W8 because the interface would eventually make me gnaw a limb off.

Re: A Good Bench Magnifying Lamp
Yeah, a cheap lamp that flops all over is annoying.
= = =
I'm low budget, I use a regular desk lamp and one of those "helping hands" things (pic attached).

Re: Safe to replace G-Luxon HM with Panasonic TS-ED
The caps you listed look like they're the same height, but the Panasonic is fatter, which may or may not be a concern depending on where it has to fit.
Panasonic has TS-ED 180uF 450V in two sizes:
EET-ED2W181CA is 25mm x 40mm
EET-ED2W181BA is 22mm x 50mm
(part numbers are is for the Low ESR version)Last edited by Blargh523; 01-02-2013, 07:33 AM.

Re: The hate never ends
I'll be skipping windows 8 entirely. A desktop-based start menu is completely counter-intuitive to my ADHD multitasking. I make heavy use of the start button and taskbar, and hardly ever see my wallpaper. And this "one program at a time" is full of WTF. I didn't build this computer to only be able to do one thing at a time.
If Microsoft follows their usual pattern, Windows 9 should be awesome...

Re: Replacing 4 diodes with a bridge
If I got that, first thing I'd do is get some socket-strips and solder then on....
