Re: olevia 242 s11, replaced all big caps in psu and others, still no go
Sound is good too, I guess the amp for sound is directly psu powered too
Osi model level 1 faults are most common! (Wire is open/shorted or disconnected)

Re: olevia 242 s11, replaced all big caps in psu and others, still no go
Oh wait! I forgot to plugin the invertor back into the tv!
26 bucks later tv is good again!
Now I just have to put back in the 30 screws... and see if the initial failure (sound) has also been corrected by the new caps

Re: olevia 242 s11, replaced all big caps in psu and others, still no go
I can't find a hole to look at the backlights through. I did learn something though on the primary inverter board is a blue led that lights and then fades out about 8 seconds after the power button is pressed.
Is there likely anything heat sensative on those boards? It took me a while to realize that there was no hole for the cap leads to go through - surface mounted.
I can post a video of this if it will help. The backlights appear to be pretty secured behind a metal plate with...

This is very similar to the board I replaced 2 470uf caps one. there were actually 2 of these, one on each side of the tv, a master and a slave.
They both looked like the top one. the caps and much of the stuff on the board if not all was surface mount.
Tv acted the same with new caps on...Last edited by dosmastr; 12-16-2012, 06:36 AM.

Inadequate I know, but this is a start.

All the big caps around the peremeter were replaced, just the tiny ones in the middle were not because the circuit got pretty complex near them.
All the obviously blown ones were on the secondary, or right side of that image.
The big boy in blue looked ok too, the refurb kit seller said they hardly ever die.Re: olevia 242 s11, replaced...Last edited by dosmastr; 12-16-2012, 06:48 AM.

Re: olevia 242 s11, replaced all big caps in psu and others, still no go
they go off when the screen goes off, or maybe a second after.
I don't have the tv in front of me but I'm pretty sure thats what it does.
The initialization screen is WHITE, I def don't still see it after a second or two. (meaning I don't think the backlight alone is turning off, the screen itself is too)

olevia 242 s11, replaced all big caps in psu and others, still no go
Hi everyone,
I was excited to spend 20 bucks and fix a multi hundred dollar tv.
the TV initially lost sound unless you left it on for 5 min then turned off and right back on. then next week even the standby light went out.
I got a kit with all the needed caps. I didn't see a single one that looked bad on the primary side of the psu but still replaced any large ones (aside from the hugest one which the kit seller said hardly ever goes bad)
It appears only the secondary side had bad caps. Again, regardless I replaced any I could. I have 4 or 5...Last edited by dosmastr; 12-10-2012, 06:03 AM.
