  • Re: Dell E171FP, GH15/17/18, No power

So here is another twist. There are some crazy things happening with this board.

I was doing some more probing. I was hunting for possible filtering caps or something so I followed the entire input section probing the in and out at each inductor all the way to the bridge rectifier. I had A/C about 121 volts at all points. At this point, I suddenly had about 161 volts DC at the output of the bridge rectifier and input of the large filter capacitor. I also measured around 5 volts DC at JP3 pins 6 and 7.

    At this point,...

I might add, this unit has been sitting not functioning for a very long time.

I decided to give fixing it a shot and I figured it's already broken so I cannot make it worse.

You are thinking the bigger ones?

  • Dell E171FP, GH15/17/18, No power

I'm troubleshooting this Dell E171FP display that has no signs of life whatsoever.

I've pulled the power board out of the screen and have tested the fuses as good (in-circuit) and I have 120-volt power at the input pins of the D2SBA Bridge Rectifier but 0 volts on the output pins.

I'm fairly inexperienced at component level testing. Will I have output voltage at these pins with nothing at all connected to this power board except the 120-volt input?

I do not even see a standby light but I wanted to make sure this board isn't waiting for some sort of...

So I would be looking at replacing the LED strips?

    Ugh if that is right.......

Where did you find it at that price point?

    I'm seeing a BN44-00769C at Newegg:

Sorry, I was in a location that did not allow me to upload photos. I intended to do that as soon as I arrived home.

There are 2 BN44- numbers on this PSU board.

    BN44-00769A & BN44-0769B

Sorry again for the photos, and thanks in advance for the assistance....

  • UN40H5203AF no video with sound

Samsung UN40H5203AF TV with no video, no backlight, with sound.

I used a flashlight and did see a very dim picture on the screen so some kind of image is there.

On connector CNM803 on the PSU the pins that show 13V do have 13V.

I checked CNL802 which is supposed to have 151.8 (per the imprint on the PSU PCB).

    The meter reads 205 volts.

I do not see any bulging caps on the PSU board.

Is this likely to be a failed PSU board?

  • Re: Vizio E550i-B2E How did I fix this?

I'm curious. I was able to fix this issue with this TV, and this seems to be a common problem with this model.

However, this TV was in use for almost 2 years before this "cold solder joint" problem disabled it.

How does this happen? If it's a cold solder joint, and basically a "design flaw", how does it work for so long before quitting?

    Thanks,

    Success!

I used a hot air rework station and flux paste to remelt the solder on this connector and corrected the cold solder joints.

A working TV for my happy friends who now do not have to replace their 2 year old TV.

Thanks Badcaps and all the helpful folks here!

I am trying to repair a board just like this with bad solder joints just like the rest of these here.

I'm not proficient at "reading" board traces.

What I am trying to find out, is row 1 on this connector a single connection electrically as far as the board is concerned? Then it looks as if the top 4 solder points on row 2 are a single connection electrically. The next 3 look as if there is no connection.

If what I think I am seeing is correct it will make my limited soldering...

  • Re: Help with Samsung S42AX-YD01

I have replaced the X-Main board, but, I have having problems with the 3 ribbon cables on the outside of the board.

I have the top and bottom connected FINALLY, but, I cannot get the center one to go for nothing!

For anyone who has done this, is there a trick to this? Seems like it's a nearly impossible task to get that ribbon cable into the slot at such an impossible angle.

    Thanks.

    Any further ideas?

I'm still at this point where I cannot tell if this module is good or bad. It does not have an abnormal appearance to me.

But, I still have a dim snowy picture that no longer seems to be intermittent like it was before.

    Thanks.

Thanks tom66. I appreciate the input. I removed the heatsink, but, being the module is just a very large IC, and there is nothing discernible about the module itself it doesn't appear to be possible to detect if it is actually at fault.

Under the heat transfer compound, there is only a shiny surface.

You stated that faults can cause dim images. I also have a grainy image but, I'm not sure that is fully apparent from one of my photos above.

In your opinion, do you think replacing this board would be the...

I didn't see any of what I thought might be cold solder joints. There was one that might have been suspect, and I resoldered it, but, this did not fix the issue.

I have not had a chance to check the voltages, that is my next step. The intermittent nature of the fault seems to have gone away, and the fault seems permanent now.

I will be able to measure the voltages now, but, will not be able to measure them in the fault isn't present.

Someone mentioned the X-Main board might be a fault...

Yes, homeowners will pay, but, some items are old enough that depreciation will likely evaporate much of the value.

I planned on pulling the back off and seeing what I could find.....

    Water on TV

    Hello,

This isn't a "Bad Cap" question, but, one that I could use some input on.

We had a water pipe rupture in our basement on Sunday 6/15/14. We were filling our pool, so the sound of water running didn't concern us. Little did we know, our anti-freeze spigot had frozen during the winter, and when we opened the line to fill the pool, a section of the line inside the basement ruptured.

For about 3 hours or more, water cascaded into the ceiling of the basement, soaking our tiles, falling down to whatever be below, which was the TV, VCR, a...

Any thoughts on these boards, especially the look of the 2 caps in the 2nd photo?

    Ok.

I may have removed the wrong board to get a better look at things. I removed the large board on the left.

It has two big round caps that have paper tops that look raised. Not sure if this is a normal appearance, but, I have attached photos for inspection.

If everything looks OK, I'll put all this back, and proceed to the other side.

Hope this helps. I have not been able to replicate getting the picture to lock back into a "good" picture so far. It seems to stay bad all the...
