Re: will a Galaxy Geforce GT520 dual display with HDMI and DVI?
ok, I think that may have answered my question. so the two timing clocks are wired in a way that any two of the outputs can be used as independent outputs, as long as a third display isn't hooked up?
because I was concerned that each timing clock went to only "one" output and that one of the two output options was basically split into two connections...

Re: will a Galaxy Geforce GT520 dual display with HDMI and DVI?
if it helps, with my current setup of one display on the vga and another on the dvi via dvi to hdmi cable, when I swapped in the gt520, sound came from the tv speakers and I had to reset my soundblaster card to be the default audio output device...
is it still possible for the HDMI and DVI to output independent video?

will a Galaxy Geforce GT520 dual display with HDMI and DVI?
I've already got this posted up at toms hardware, here: sony-ps3-graphics-bundle-sharp-aquos-dual-display-galaxy-gt520
the galaxy model of the GT520 has one HDMI, one DVI and one VGA output as opposed to two DVI and one HDMI like most GT520's. what I'm trying to figure out is if the dvi port is split with the vga or the HDMI port so I know if I can independent dual display with one HDMI device and another device via dvi-HDMI cable......

Re: RCA RT2770 Reciever (Home Theater?) Need help!
not in my case. after removing the burnt ic for the center channel and sub amp part of the D-AMP board and taking the burnt resistor out of the snubber circuit it works perfectly fine on the remaining 4 channels. all the other features work and the RCA un-powered sub output is even controlled by the signal processing board.
if the filter caps on the output side of the D-AMP board (the rows of black ones between the row of ICs and the speaker terminals) are bloated then I would definitely pull the heatsink...

Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned up a resistor
ah, didnt catch the source difference.
my main point is when selecting an amp for a sub that is going to be hooked to a class d HTIB we don't really need to concern ourselves with a class a amp for the sub. in fact, class a for mids and highs with a class d sub amp is fairly common practice.
is there any practical reason to pay more for a class a amp for the sub only when the satellite speakers are going to be driven by a low tech class d amplifier circuit?

Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned up a resistor
is this dayton different than the one I posted before?
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-802
I'm not trying to spend more than $100 on an amp for a sub in a room with an RCA HTIB for the receiver. this setup is anything BUT an audiophile setup. not to mention the power consumption of a class a amp.
I've got a GAS son of ampazilla and a Carver sonic holographer if I wanted to get some nice modern studio monitors (like m-audio maybe) and hook that directly to...

Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned up a resistor
then I found this, which would mount to the outside of the the sub enclosure: http://blujay.com/item/DAYTON-MODEL-SA100-100-WATT-RMS-SUBWOOFER-AMPLIFIER-MODULE-8050102-3091530
or this, which I would have to build a case for, as I dont want to cut holes in the nice stillwater enclosure: http://www.apexjr.com/CVT200S.htm
any opinions as to which way would probably be best? I'm leaning towards the dayton, as it would be the most straight forward to use...Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned...

Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned up a resistor
also wonder if this lil guy could be built into the case to provide me with 2 4ohm 100w subwoofer outputs....

Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned up a resistor
ok, I decided to just take a look at how it seemed the etch was going on the PCB's and decided to remove the burnt IC, it works fine and no longer makes a blown electicals smell any more.
decided to test the RCA sub output and ran a car stereo RCA wire from it to the setup in my bedroom (2 12" car stereo subs built into a waterbed frame in a cross firing sealed bandpass fashion, with a 450w car stereo 2 channel amp and an active crossover hooked to a 10amp power supply) and the RCA output is indeed actively controlled...

Re: Why have almost all my failed motherboards been ECS brand?
which is what I'm dealing with right now...
I'm now glad most of the HTCP's I've set up for people are based around ready built deskbooks...
[edit] BTW, ASUS GPU's are built by galaxy... just google image search ASUS nVidia GPU's and compare the PCB's to the same model Galaxy GPU's. the only difference is the heatsink, fans, and stickers......Last edited by Home_Command_Center; 12-16-2012, 07:53 PM.

Re: SMPS Rectifier circuit burned up a resistor
ok, well the sub is still good and I'm going to source an external amp for it.
I have two questions now though, since I can't find a good transformer for the sub, and I plan to give up on the center channel...
do you think the RCA sub output is already frequency controlled by the input/processor board? or will I need an external crossover?
and also, should I lift the burnt IC off the amplifier board before reassembly so it doesnt fry the switching power supply? or should I leave it alone and...

Re: RCA RT2770 Reciever (Home Theater?) Need help!
the 3 leg transistor did not fail in my case, when I removed the resistor, nullifying the snubber circuit, the thing powered up and didnt really make a lot of hiss without it.
as for the sub switch, it's a little two pin connector you see for fans in PC's. just cut the lead off an old PC fan with the correct connector, plug it into the back, and use the two wires to complete the circuit. then your sub channel will work.
I caution you though, check the ohm load of your sub first, it needs to be 8ohm or...

Re: Why have almost all my failed motherboards been ECS brand?
yeah, since I always use AMD CPU's the next mobo will definitely be an ATI based gigabyte mobo.
this AMD/nVidia frankenstein will keep the low end nvidia 3d ready GPU, creative sound card, and POS ram, but get re-cased with a cheapo 600w PSU I have laying around and a mid tower case I have in storage after a repaint, then it's becoming nothing more than a windows XP based HTPC for the living room to replace the roku thats out there now.
my current case and fatal1ty...

Re: Why have almost all my failed motherboards been ECS brand?
well I swapped in a newer GPU that I got for christmas yesterday and it began to do the bad ram beep rather than posting. moved the ram to the other slot and not only did it boot, but the no-post issue from before was gone. still glitches during boot up into the os though...

Re: Why have almost all my failed motherboards been ECS brand?
not sure off hand, the bulged cap is a purple/burgundy electrolytic cap. I can try to look it up. as for tearing it back down, well if I do it will be quite a while before I could post again....
this thing is just absolutely aggravating.
what's the "under-fill defect"?

Re: Why have almost all my failed motherboards been ECS brand?
Anyone know anything about EC35 on the ECS geforce 6100 sm-m? it's right by the pcie slot, it's a little bloated, but not blown all over the place. this mobo has been glitchy and wierd ever since I got it. it had a cheap barebones PSU go on it a long time ago that I replaced with a OCZ fatal1ty 750w and it ran well for a while, but now it's acting very strange during the boot process. sometimes I have to boot it 20 times or so before it will load into the os. also, sometimes, it won't even post, it'll just power up the...

Re: Custom Transformer Construction?
yeah, hopefully they will have something off the shelf that will do the job.
if it works well and is affordable I may wind up getting a bunch of them for future projects.
seems like most of the ones they have are more extreme than what I need, like for electrostatic speakers with ohm loads that can drop below 1ohm at times, and then big transformers for the output channels of tube amps.
maybe I'll get lucky though.
