    Re: dell 1d3b

We did not get it off of him. He just wanted us to look at it and see how much it would be to fix and if it was over our standard labor, he would just get a new one. I work for a business so we mark up the parts. Off the bat you could tell his screen was shattered. So I pulled his hdd out and ran it through a few tests on my bench and it failed. I called him, gave him the news and he said that he would just get a new one. At that point I told him I could waive the diagnostic fee and recycle it for him and he said that was fine.

A customer opted to buy a new computer instead of having the screen and harddrive replaced so they let us have it. Does anyone have any idea on how to get by the password without shorting out the flash chip or removing it?

  • Re: Good build for your buck? AMD vs Intel?

I guess $400-$600 dollars is what I'd like to spend. Because of price I was leaning towards AMD. I want something pretty much just for gaming for, say, Skyrim and virtualization. I tinker around with VMWare so I can try out different operating systems and nostalgia with DOS and Windows 3.1. I am a graduate of Pittsburgh Technical Institute with a concentration in Network Administration so I like to mess around with Server and would like to try out different Linux distros. I still work at a small computer repair store but would like to...

  • Good build for your buck? AMD vs Intel?

I am sure you probably get this from time to time, but I am looking for a nice system to game on for a moderate price.

I work at a small computer repair shop and they are very bias against AMD. I also cannot really afford to buy hardware to test out and would prefer to try it out myself as opposed to reading reviews, but you guys here seem like you would know what I would like to know.

I know AMD is cheaper than intel and the qualm that my coworkers have with AMD is they run too hot and are just not as "fast" as their intel counterparts.

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello all! I work at a small computer repair shop and when I search for things I often come across this forum so I decided to become a member and see things from a perspective that is not of my own or my two co-workers, who are very biased about things. I would like to share my experiences with you as well as learn your your experiences. I am a graduate of Pittsburgh Technical Institute with a concentration in Network Administration, but feel I am still very novice with many things. With that being said, I hope I can help out...
