Re: Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
The price went up. I think I paid $60 for mine, which was a good deal, but I agree with your points there and think with the price it is now, the blue one is a better buy.

Re: POST card. Your experience please?
I would make sure you are using a good power supply first. Maybe swap a known good one in and try booting. Also remove any unneeded peripherals, and make sure the CPU is properly mounted. Check for bent pins or chipped core. Bad CPU will cause no-post.
Edit: I just found your other post. Looks like you already have this covered. Never mind =)

Re: Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
Hi szekimilu Sorry to keep you hanging like that! I got the meter a long time ago and have been using it heavily. It works great, you do good work! I highly recommend this esr meter to anyone looking to buy one if you don't want to/don't have time to build your own. I think I already left positive feedback on ebay but I will make sure.

EVGA nforce 590 sli, buzzing sound
Hey everyone. Ive been having this problem for quite some time. Every once in a while.. usually while I am gaming and my comp gets hot, my computer will make a loud buzzing sound for about 1-2 seconds and then (usually) reboot itself, sometimes it won't reboot if i hold my mouth just right. I can't tell if the sound is coming from the power supply or the motherboard, but does this sound like bad caps? Another weird this is, i'd been getting bsod's, so i took out a stick of ram one at a time until the BSODs stopped. When i tried to put the ram back in (hopeful thinking), the computer wouldn't boot...

Re: Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
Thanks for the replies and suggestions everyone. It's no use advertising Bob's (or anyone elses) ~$80 ESR meters, Like I said before, I'd like to spend less than $50, I might try building a simple one like suggested, but I don't have many junk parts, and although i can identify most of the symbols, I can't really read schematics very well. I dont have any education on electronics. Will the meter from a junked analog multimeter work for this? The meter is junk because it will...

Re: Viewsonic vp171b - Bad Caps?
Ive got this same monitor, and it stays on just fine, but after its been on for a long time, certain shades of red make it glitch out, and i get a flickering horizontal row of green pixels on the same line where the pixel of red is. If I cycle the monitor off and back on, the problem is gone for a couple more hours, this is what makes me think it might be a capacitor/heat issue. Anyone got an idea? Don't mean to thread hijack but i figure same monitor, same thread.

Re: Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
Yeah. Every once in a while the power supply in one of my computers goes BZZZZZZZ, and sometimes it shuts off while its buzzing, other times, it just buzzes for a while and doesn't turn off. I looked at the caps and none of them look bad, but I might just replace them all anyway.
Under further investigation, the noise seems to be coming from my UPS, but nothing else connected to it turns off. I dont know, it doesn't happen often enough or long enough to quickly pinpoint exactly where the sound is coming from.

Re: Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
Certainly tempting. I just don't know if I can justify spending $80 on it...

Re: Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
Thanks for all the info. I will look through the many esr meter threads, i'd like to spend less than $50 on one, or less than 5 hours building one. That might not be possible tho.

Regular multimeter to test for ESR?
Hi, I'm new here. I'm in no way an electronics guru, or even somewhat adept, but I've already fixed a few power supplies and LCD monitors by swapping the bad capacitors. I've just replaced them all, and I would rather have a way to test before unsoldering and replacing them, or to test new capacitors to make sure they fit the bill. Ive looked around some and it seems ESR meters are either too expensive or you have to build them yourself, and I don't have the time or experience to do that. I was wondering if something like this...
