we got it to light up! It must've been stuck in standby. I feel stupid. originally had plugged and unplugged, tried to power up from console button, etc. and moved on to the bad caps idea since we heard a 'pop'. But now decided to search the forums again for getting out of standby; then went through the plugging and unplugging again. It came on! so I will close it up, and put it away for now. But I was here when it went out. I heard the pop too. what could've that been?

the 4 Mosfet's on the inverter board are part numbers FDD8447L. I measured Gate/Source resistance for each one at around 8.5k ohms. while the part was on the board. TV unplugged from mains....Leave a comment:

more info: This is my friend's TV. There was a pop sound when it died. I called Vizio tech support who, since it is out of warrantee, referred me to their contracted repair center. Their suggestion was to send out a repair tech. He would have all the boards with him, and they would replace them until it worked. for $180. she didn't want to spend $180 on an older model 32", so, since I tend towards being techy...and have some electronics experience from old Air Force days, so I volunteered to take a look. This is a great venue. Thank you so much for what you do.
Vizio amber light is on when plugged in. Does not turn to white with power button. no backlight. Looked for leaking caps..did not see any obvious ones.
Downloaded the manual, and read through the forum. made the measurements below:
Power supply board:
+5.16V present, 12V pins=0, 24V pins=0
PSON voltage on J1 pin 1 = 0 (45 mV)
Main board:
U22: pin 2 =3.321V; pin 3=5.17V (working?)
Both ends of F1=5.17V, both ends of F2=0V
power off: F1 and F2 are both 0 ohms.
...
