    Thanks Pete also.

    It is all mystery to me so I googled up petrol generator regulators.

    I took a I look at the regulator circuit box.
    So then I went to my fleet of old discarded, smokey ,noisy, gennys of the same design to see if I could find a another regulator box but was surprised that they did not seem to have them?
    I started one of the clunkers and found it was giving out 248volts.

    The washing machine pump works after turning down the revs to get back to...

    Can anyone tell me why turning down the idle of a 1100 watt Ryobi 4 stroke petrol generator would allow a washing machines water pump to start working again.

    The long story. I live off grid and at times use the generator for a LG direct drive washing machine.

    I turned up my generator's idle expecting to increase the voltage output from 230 volts closer to the 240 volts that is recommended in Australia for electrical goods.

    Some days later my wife noticed the washing machine still washing, was no longer pumping water, but would still spin if the drain...

    I'm on the new NBN Australian system.
    The satellite modem is a skyedge II.
    The government gives people in Australia a free satellite system if their NBN rollout of fibre-optics will not be delivered. Basically people in the country areas. We still have to pay an ISP, in my case $45 / month for 3G/3G peak-use/ off plan at 6 mbps speed and a promise of 12 mbps.
    I was surprised at the rating for the laptop. It's a recently bought net-pad a Acer Aspire one D270. My usage of it is pretty tame.

    So it seems the 600 watt range may best suit my circumstance.

    I checked the power consumption of the adapters rated against 240 volts.
    Satellite modem 1.8amps @ 240v
    Wireless router 0.3 amps
    Printer 333mA
    Computer 1.2amps
    Total 3.633 amps @240 = 871 watts ?

    So with this wattage 871, if the printer is not being used and the laptop is running on it's own battery and only...

    I measured the amperage by plugging each items 240 volt plug into a 300 watt square wave inverter that whistles and carries on. I quickly checked my houses 12 volt regulator that shows amperage usage.
    So if this 8 amps is a correct total reading then are you saying 1,000watt inverter can't handle it?
    I'm really not conversant with how to calculate power usage. 12v x 8 amps would be 96 watts so how do you calculate this with 240 volts and the 1,000watts?
    Would I need something larger than 1,000w inverter?...

    My home is solar powered on a very small battery bank. I have 4x 6 volts 105 amp/hr in parallel giving the 12 volts. I measured the current of all the parts of the system at 12 volts.
    Satellite modem 3.6amps
    Wireless router 0.8 amps
    Printer 1.6amps
    Computer 2amps
    Total 8amps

    Pure sine wave or modified sign wave.

    I've all but wired up the Inverter, Displayboard, the 12volt supply
    with only the 5 volt positive supply to put in place.
    In your drawing the 5v at the display board goes into which pin[B]?[/B]

    [B] "My guess is the two pins at the top are the [COLOR="blue"]ADJUST[/COLOR] and [COLOR="green"]ON/OFF[/COLOR] pins."[/B]

    So would it therefore mean the [COLOR="Red"]5 volts[/COLOR] goes to pin[B] 5[/B] or [B]6[/B] [B]?[/B]

    I'm back again after being away. Thanks for the drawing it's fine and I'm sure I will make sense of it as soon as I get [B]a moment to revise [/B]all the info.
    I did put together the 5volt power supply after my first attempt failed.
    My soldering was atrocious and one of the joints failed making me think at first I had cooked the IC.
    I really need a proper soldering iron that works.

    On the one I have, black is power in and red is earth. The two yellows come from adjust and on/off on the inverter.
    [B]Lucky[/B] you mentioned that as I had tied the red and black to the display board, red as power in and black earth. Red has always been positive 12 volts and black negative earth in my experience.



    I will be picking up two of 7805's and two lots of caps from my city today.

    When the 12 volts and 5 volts are attached they basically[B] piggyback...

    If I got this correct I attached 2 wires to the pins #1 & #2 on the top row of the smaller PCB board/display board . Also the 14volt and the ground to the top row. All four were connected to the new inverter output 4 pin plug.

    When you say attached the lamps I gather it's the screens plugs?

    Also where does the external +12 volt supply input go to the new inverter and which is the earth or -12volt?

    And do I need to supply and external 5 volt supply?...

    I did the test this morning and could only find 3.3volts from pin #1.
    No voltage could be seen from pin #5.
    Would that voltage be correct?

    It was a bit fiddly and the contacting points were difficult together with pulling the 240 volt plug in and out.
    I'll try again this evening.
    I need to go out and pull my car's back caliper apart now.

    I checked the voltage of the pins and they were different from those you listed.
    Looking at the back of the pins on the power board toward the connector of the disconnected display board.

    left to right
    top row... 1= -0volts, 2=5volts, 3=grd, 4= 14volts,
    bottom row... 5= -0.12volts, 6= 5 volts, 7=grd, 8= 14 volts...

    Sometimes, this power supply also sends 12v to the display board, in case the display board also has a small audio amplifier for speakers.

    I gather you are referring to the 2 PCB boards that can be un-hooked. Is
    the larger one not used anymore as it is only the power supply and can be discarded? I noticed the inverter has the 4 plugs for the monitor. So the smaller PCB is connected to the inverter as you described to that 6-pin connector (circled in figure 11 below)...
