• Fixed! Viewsonic VX2835 - Newbie story

I just wanted to let you folks know that I successfully repaired my Viewsonic vx2835wm monitor.
The original thread with photos is here (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23342) for those that may come across this thread in the future.
I couldn't get my head round how to do the actual board testing and I didn't want to blow myself up so I ended up just going for a recap session. I recapped the ones as highlighted in the pictures by Lumberjack777 In the original thread reply (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23342) on the power board...

• Re: lifted the solder pads help!

Hi Selldoor,
Yes from what i can see the traces look attached and undamaged - just lifted.
As for 601, that is the state i found it in when i opened the case. From reading the forum feedback this board runs hot and i was told that this type of burn residue is normal, guess i will find out if i can get it back up and running.
Too late to quit now, in far too deep as this stage

• lifted the solder pads help!

Hi folks,
In the process of recapping a Viewsonic vx28wm monitor (same power board as the Hanns G mega thread) i appear to have lifted the solder pads off some parts of the power board.
My initial thread questioning as to how i would go about fixing it along with initial pics is located here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23342
I am a self confessed newbie in all of this but did take the time to practice my soldering on a practice board and i thought my recapping on the main board went very well for my first time and all that.
However...

• Re: About to recap Viewsonic VX2835 - Cap brand question

Cheers for the reply selldoor.
Just picked up the caps yesterday from the post office so will start the process in a couple of days.
Have you ever heard or used Hitano caps before? If so any reports on their longevity/performance.

Thanks

• Re: About to recap Viewsonic VX2835 - Cap brand question

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this but here is some more info and pics.
There is only 4 caps that i will likely replace where i cannot obtain Panasonic replacements. I have pointed out their positions on the board and they specifically are:
Ltec: 3 X 22uF 35v TK series to be replaced by:

• About to recap Viewsonic VX2835 - Cap brand question

Hi folks,
I just ordered new capacitors to recap my viewsonic vx2835 (which has the same power board as the Hanns G HG28) and i was able to mainly order Panasonic FC brand caps for all but a few of the capacitors. However there were some caps i just couldn't find readily available here (czech republic) or in fact europe in a board recommended brand. I would have to order from the US or buy in great bulk.
One example was the 22uF 35v and the 10uF 10v caps off of the power board.
So i went for caps made by Yageo, Vishay (low esr) and Jianghai to fill the gaps.
I haven't...

• Re: Newbie with Viewsonic VX2835WM Problem

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your advice and tips so far and no i haven't blown myself up yet!
To be honest the past week or so i have been reading over various articles and looking at youtube clips on testing boards and i have to say i am still pretty clueless about the mechanics of it all.
How exactly do you set the dam thing up to test with your multimeter?
Please i know this may seem like a dumb question but i am really an electrical novice.
I have both the power board and main board out of the case and...

Thanks for the tips Mariushm,
I didn't see your post before i went shopping but ended up buying the second one you recommended so i guess great minds think alike!
This is a slow work in progress as you can tell with my infrequent posting but i hope to be able to get some testing done this week.
After another careful look at the board and some additional capacitor reading i noticed i have at least 4 caps with mushroomed tops which will need to be replaced on the main board and possibly one on the power board. Of course...

• Re: Newbie with Viewsonic VX2835WM Problem

Hi Guys,
Thanks for taking the time to look at my pics, i can't believe you think it could be a candidate for saving, i really thought it was done.
I am off to buy a multimeter today so i can test the board and some test circuit boards to practice my soldering.
I have to admit i have never tested anything electrical so i am a complete novice as far as how i go about it.
If anyone gets the chance i have included two links below of multimeters that are at my local electrical shop - note the ones which have the...

• Re: Newbie with Viewsonic VX2835WM Problem

Hi Guys,
Well i managed to take apart the monitor without any breakages and went about photographing the appropriate parts today when i had some good light.
I uploaded 8 photos, which i hope isn't over kill, i just want you guys to get a good look at what i am seeing.
The first thing i noticed (and i am a novice at this) was the distinct discolouration on the power board and the definite areas that looked burnt - black/brown with some sort of residue there. When you held it up it also smelt pretty burnt as well....

• Newbie with Viewsonic VX2835WM Problem

Hi All,
I just wanted to introduce myself and highlight my problem.
I bought my vx2835 about 5 years ago and it has provided me with a trouble free life until the past few months.
I noticed that it wouldn't power up (no led lights) from start up and i would have to unplug the cable and plug it into a different socket to get it to turn on. It has been doing this intermittently for the past 2 months or so. However 2 days ago it wouldn't power on at all and there was a slight white flicker coming from the screen, i really thought that was it. I tried different sockets and cables...
