Re: Nichicon - No series identification
Here's the full schematic. Those two capacitors highlighted in the first post had ESR 0f 8.6-8.8 ohms each. The two Mosfets (Q101, Q102) had blown and after replacing them along with the controller(U101), several resistors (R101-R104), and Mosfet Q103, I got it working. That lasted about 3 months before they blew again. Just trying to figure out what's happening to the Mosfets....

Nichicon - No series identification
I have some Nichicon 10 uF 16 V 105° caps out of a Bose sound system with no series markings just A427 which I assume is a date code? Don't know if they were specially built for Bose or they are just general purpose caps. They are in the secondary of a SMPS. I'm guessing a low ESR cap would be the proper replacement?

Bose Lifestyle 48 Acoustimass PS Issue
I've had this system for 20 years with no problems. One day, all audio is missing and it turns out the ps mosfets are blown along with associated components including controller IC. Found a guy on YouTube with similar problem and replaced the parts he mentioned as well as 1 additional mosfet in the feedback circuit. The system worked great for 3 months, now back to original problem with blown mosfets, etc. There are 2 10uF 25V caps on secondary with ESR of 8.6-8.8 ohms, my replacement cap measures 1.2 ohms. Does the ESR on the secondary caps seem high enough to take out the mosfets or should I...

Re: 50PF9830a/37 Philips Plasma Clay Face? Posterizing?
Thanks Tom. The voltages are spot on with the values on the sticker. I can vary the number of dots by changing Yrr/Yfr, but it has no effect on the pastel effects. Like I said, sometimes it will just flicker and then start working perfectly out of the blue. As long as it doesn't appear to be the display, I might start swapping boards and the logic board is the cheapest.

50PF9830a/37 Philips Plasma Clay Face? Posterizing?
I'm not sure of the proper terminology for this problem, but if you zoom in on the picture you will notice purple dots, banding, and pastel looking faces. Sometimes the screen will flicker and the picture will go back to normal. I've tried a heat gun, freeze spray, and prodding of boards to get it back to normal. I have unseated and seated every connector in the tv. My gut tells me logic board, but if someone has some ideas let me know....

Re: Hakko 808 Nozzles
I have found that tip (A1005) to be the perfect size. Occasionally, I'll come across a large component or a heat shield that is too large for the opening.

Re: LG 42PC3D - dim picture, black jaggies?
If you press and hold the menu button on the set and then press and hold the menu button on the remote it will bring up a menu that will have the information. You may have to do it in reverse order, I can't be sure, but either way it will bring up different hidden menus and one of them has the hours on it....

Re: Samsung 50" Plasma HPT5044 No Picture
I don't know if having the buffers removed makes a difference, but here's a working 50" Samsung panel image. Your image looks more like the abnormal image on pg 54 referring to the Vsch voltage. It should be around -55V and is produced on the Ysus board. Again, it could be because the buffers are disconnected, but that voltage appears to be absent. Disregard those arrows on my image, they are pointing at the Vsetup peaks and were put there for a different thread....Last edited by ghiotom; 12-26-2012, 12:21 PM.

Re: Viero PDP42V18HA short on Z-SUS?
My advice is to treat yourself to a Christmas gift and get yourself a Hakko 808 desoldering gun.

Try setting the time to 2 milliseconds.

Re: Need guidance scoping YSUS board.
Assuming your input can accept up to 400 volts, put your probe on 10x and volts/div to 100 volts. Ground goes to any nearby screw or other point attached to the chassis. You might want to pull or unscrew your probe clip and just insert the tip into the hole marked waveform on the board. Triggering will be hard. You may get a fairly stable waveform setting trigger to AC line ( 60 Hz in US) or you may be able to trigger in on the peak of the Vset voltage if you have a waveform. I wouldn't worry about external triggering, you're just looking for...

Re: Lg 42" plasma model p2pc3d-ud
I would still like to know where you get the files to upgrade the chip with. Capkid, did you order your jig from MCM? Keep us updated. I've heard mixed reviews on firmware upgrades solving the sparklies problem, but I have one I would like to try and fix.

Where did you find the files to flash the chip with and what kind of programmer did you use?

Re: LG 42PC1DA Plasma Sound but blank screen
Have you ruled out the Y-Buffer board? If all of your DC voltages are correct and you have the correct waveform coming out of your Y-Sus board, could the buffer board be the problem? BTW, I have a working 42PC3D, which is similar to yours, cracked open on the bench in case you need me to make any comparison checks.

Re: LG 42PC1DA Plasma Sound but blank screen
Even with the Zsus board disconnected, you should get a dim image on the screen.

Are you sure you're getting 15V at the IPM on the Zsus board?

Re: Vsetup voltage in a Plasma Question
UPDATE: For those who might come upon this thread in a future search, the Vsetup (Vrr) voltage was indeed missing. The first pic shows the original waveform with the Vsetup missing and the second pic shows the proper waveform. According to the Philips training manual on plasmas, if the Vsetup voltage is weak or missing, image retention will occur which is the problem I was having. Now, the 195V Vsetup was present at the Y sustain board, however, the drive signal was missing from the logic board. An smd resistor array on the logic board had...
