    Thanks for the tips. Followup: how do I identify the "main IC" (biggest one?). I can also try freeze spray on the IC and check ESR of suspect caps. So the fact that an input (cable, DVD player, etc.) signal covers up the bars mean that it's the A board (upstream of the Y driver)?

  • Panasonic TC-P42C2 vertical bars across screen

    Looking for troubleshooting help with this one: a 3 year-old Panasonic plasma that has a row of vertical bars, in alternating groups of red and green, across the entire screen (see photo attachment--note that the white box in the upper left corner is normal, it's showing the input setting).

    This goes away if I turn off the set for 20 seconds or so, then turn it back on. The bars then reappears within a minute, growing in height until they reach the state shown in the photo. So, it's heat dependent. I'm thinking a capacitor or bad IC, but could use some help narrowing down the board...
