  • Re: Heatsink fan burned out now computer is dead.

Yeah, that's a great idea kaboom, I'm not super familiar with computer motherboard layout's I usually fix TV's, much easier to work on, but this is fun, I'm learning a great deal as I go.

So from what I can tell the ATX 24 pin molex has two +12v and the 4 pin CPU molex has two +12v, wondering which lead to trace?

Also, when you say back feed the circuit I'm guessing you're suggesting I hook up a +12V power supply to the fan plug on the motherboard and follow the current back to the molex...

  • Re: Heatsink fan burned out now computer is dead.

I did some poking around on my board and opened up the fan that killed my computer and discovered a couple of things.

1 a diode of the fan itself split in half, I don't know if it was this way before I plugged it in, or if it cracked after, my guess would be after.

2 I traced some of the leads back a bit on the board, hard to do without schematics considering the boards are 5 and 7 layer, I found a 100uf 16 v cap the 12v goes back to as well as what look like two super small surface mount resistors that...

If you mean the circuit on the fan I put the old haetsink and fan back in place, no good, still a dead MOBO, if you mean the circuit that controls the fan on the MOBO I would love to know where to find it. ...

Alright, well if anyone wants to try their hand at helping me fix my MOBO here are the pictures, it can't get any more dead than it already is. LOL

A background on me, I have decent solder skills, but I'm not capable of supersmall repairs, I can do repairs down to about the size of surface mount resistors, capacitors, and so on, no smaller.

I took lots of pictures, there is no noticeable physical damage, I.E. no blown caps or anything like that.

I started at the bottom left corner of the...

I did change the PSU with a known working PSU, no change.

I did a bad thing and took the CPU and stuck it in another MOBO, thank God it fired up and didn't take down another MOBO, so my processor was not damaged.

Everything is still good except my MOBO, I was wondering if it blew a fuse on the board somewhere, it's a HP DX7500 MOBO if anyone would know about this stuff.

I can't believe a heatsink fan can blow a MOBO, but it appears that , yes, yes it can.

    Stupid thing is when you...

  • Heatsink fan burned out now computer is dead.

So I attached a new heatsink to my computer, after doing so I turned my computer on and the fan on the heatsink started to smoke, it never even spun at all, just smoked, then my computer would not turn back on, dead.

I used the proper heatsink, I replaced a standard square heatsink on my HP DX7500 with a round copper core heatsink, obviously I used thermal paste, I connected it right, I think I just got screwed, bought this POS off Ebay, they sent me the wrong heatsink at first, then when I told them about it they sent this other heatsink, which I'm sure killed my motherboard....

  • Re: Samsung LN-T375HA will not turn on, power light stays red.

Interesting, I know nothing about gamma chips so I can't help you in that way, I was simply taught by a television repair shop owner as I wanted a bit of knowledge for myself on how electronics work, obviously I did not learn even close to everything in 2 and 1/2 years and I would say that a gamma chip is something I have never even heard of and so it is way over my head, I would love to read all about them though if anyone has any references to it, I googled it but was unable to find it.

    Anyways, sorry...

Hmmm. I have never experienced that symptom, all I can say is that a bad panel has never stopped any TV from turning on that I have worked on, I have fixed maybe around 40 to 50. All I can say is it's strange behavior, if you wanted to spend a little money checking into it you might be able to buy the Tcon from Shop Jimmy, if it doesn't work you could get a refund minus a restocking fee and return shipping.

Hopefully someone with more experience than me can offer their input on this.

Have you tried to disconnect and reconnect the ribbon cables on the Tcon board?

Half a picture would automatically make me suspicious of the Tcon board, does the half a picture that shows up look good or is it bad, as in the picture is the wrong colors, has artifacts, or lines running through it?

Alright, so real quick here is a picture of the Power board, supposing my legs are labeled correct as I tend to be a bit dyslexic from time to time this is what I can tell you.

I first became aware that the chip was functioning incorrectly but what I would call sure dumb luck, LOL, and I just happened to be right.

I board has 2 other 817B Optoisolators, so I did some probing on them, the chip I replaced had a much different reading from the other two, although when I replaced it the reading...

Thanks for the quick reply and the info. =D

I'll look into it and get back with you tomorrow when I post the pics of the power board.

  • Samsung LN-T375HA will not turn on, power light stays red.

Hi, I have been fixing electronics for about 2 and a half to three years.

I am posting this for two reasons.

First, because I have already diagnosed the problem and fixed it and I am hoping to help others who might have this problem in the future by saving them some cash. XD

Second, because I am what I would call a noob, I know guys who have been doing this for years, so I could use a little help myself, it seems all good, I help others and get help myself. =)

So to start, if you have a Samsung TV and it wont turn on and the power light...

  • Re: Samsung DLP LED Color Flickering Issues

I was thinking of checking the LED's first to avoided spending money if the problem could be isolated through simple trouble shooting so I think that testing the colors is a great first test even though I suspect you to be correct about the DMD or Digital board.

The time I changed the LED in the DLP before was for a shop, the owner of the shop simply brought me the LED and said install it. LOL XD Then he proceeded to talk about it being the red LED and I simply remember working with him on LCD projections where the red filters...

Interesting, I considered the DMD but the fact red and green are showing up, or is it blue, LOL, made me second guess that and figure maybe one of the high intensity LED's are going out. I think the driver board is fine because as you said it would not light up at all if it were bad.

Also my friend has two other videos of the TV acting up, one I just saw has a color issue striping through the set.

LOL, I'm Dumbsday's friend who is trying to help him, let me clarify for him, I have about 2 and 1/2 years working on electronics but I have only worked on a LED DLP one time, I sent him here to hopefully get advice from someone who might know more about what they are talking about than I do. XD

Having said that, I think perhaps one of his LED color lights might be going bad and needs to be replaced, last time I worked with one of these sets it was the red LED light, and I suggested it might be the red considering in LCD projections...
