Re: Alienware 17 (R5) shorted Mosfet
oh sh... yesterday I wrote pu500 instead pu501,my bad.it's about pu501 not pu500 ,sorry.
yes I think that changing pu501 will solve it.

Re: Alienware 17 (R5) shorted Mosfet
pin4.
so only pq503,pq504 or pu501 is potential defective.i will go to pu501 (mosfet driver).

Re: Alienware 17 (R5) shorted Mosfet
ok,so you have a shorted component on +vcc_core signal.you have to check all components connected on +vcc_core and ground.on the left side of pl501,pl502,pl503 you have pq503,pq504,pq507,pq508,pq5011,pq512,pu500.On the right side you have a bunch of capacitors :pc900,pc901....
if you can't measure the faulty one all you can do is remove one, measure, put it back and so on until the short goes away(the measurement has to be tens or hundreds of kohms).
goodluck.

Re: Alienware 17 (R5) shorted Mosfet
hello
where did you measure 0.2ohm?between pl501 and ground?
do this measurements(before that remove the cpu):
pq502 pin4 and gnd
pq502 pins1,2,3 and gnd
pq502 pins5,6,7,8 and gnd
pq502 pins1,2,3 and pins5,6,7,8

Re: sony vaio GPU
first I reflowed the chip after I removed and reballed but something gone wrong and the chip bended....Its plane has a little deviation so it couldn't be fitted on board .
bad luck...

sony vaio GPU
hello,
I have a sony vaio PCG-6121m with video problems.
The board is
M960_MP_MB
8Layer MBX-224 REV1.1.
1P-009CJ01-8011
I reflowed the gpu -> same problems.
I reballed the gpu but the chip has bended and it couldn't be soldered back. After a while I ordered a new chip (according the schematic 216-0774008,becouse I couldn't find the old chip) but it is smaller than board footprint.
Looked back on schematic and it says that are many GPU options but still don't know what should I order.
if anyone have this...

Re: Dell Inspiron N5010 no video with 8 beeps
I also have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with same issue: bo boot, only 8 short beeps.I removed the lcd cable and powered up only external display connected but still no boot and still 8 beeps so there is no problem with lcd cable.I think is GPU fault,i noticed that the GPU become very hot few seconds after power up,i guess that is not good.i will reball the GPU and if it does not work i will change it.
i will keep you informed...

Re: asus k50ij dead
i did not checked the RSMRST# signal, but i think it becomes active after VSUS_ON and SUSPWRGOOD.
I will check and tell you.
thanks....

asus k50ij dead
hello,
i have an asus k50ij with no led lights and no charging;there is only +19V and 3,3v for EC also EC_reset but no VSUS_ON.
I have checked the EC inputs everything seems to be ok...AC_IN_OC# is 3,3v...EC clock is 32 Khz..
I would change the EC but i want to be sure that EC is defective...
Any hint?
Could be the bios chip?I am not sure that the EC needs bios to rise up the VSUS_ON signal.
Waiting for your opinions...
Best regards....

Re: Compal LA-4493P, LM393 pin 4 and 8 shorted
check PC11,PC28,PC29.they are also connected to VL.

Re: Compal LA-4493P, LM393 pin 4 and 8 shorted
VL is a 5v output of PU4 (isl6237 i guess)pin 7.it should be on after you connect the power adapter.try to track the short along VL .i wil start with removing pu4.

Re: reballing temperatures
i think it's not about flux.i think it's about time above melting point of solder balls.try to keep the chip at 183-190 C or 217-225 C (for leadfree) at least 30 seconds and then you can lift the chip.but maximum 60 seconds.
