Re: Toshiba Satellite L775D internal LCD flashes white, no boot.
I mean, is there another way to test it because I don't want to spend money on a screen if it's not the solution.

Toshiba Satellite L775D internal LCD flashes white, no boot.
Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L775D that won't work with the internal LCD. HDMI and VGA works fine, but if I have just the internal LCD connected, it just flashes black and white rapidly. Tried a different (used) board and it does the same. LCD model is lp173wd1. Could it be the LCD is shorting the board and how do I test it?
Thanks,

Toshiba Satellite L755D no backlight on motherboard – fuse location?
Hey all,
My Toshiba Satellite L755D laptop stopped powering its backlight on the internal display. It is an LED backlit display, so no inverter. I pulled it apart and found no voltage on the PWM pin on the LCD board itself, and when I applied 5v from an external supply, the backlight turned on.
I'm guessing that the fuse on the board blew, but there are no markings on the board to locate it. Does someone happen to have the schematic for this laptop? Otherwise how do I find the fuse for the LCD PWM output?
Thanks,
JGAN

Re: Macbook pro bios password
In the past, if you removed the RAM and restarted, it would clear the firmware password.

Re: Dell Inspiron N5010 no power!
Sorry to disappoint you all, but I ended up breaking one of the ZIF connectors on the board and I figured I might as well replace the whole thing now. I appreciate all your help though, maybe next time!

Dell Inspiron N5010 no power!
Hey guys,
I got a Dell Inspiron N5010 that isn't getting any power. The power brick is 100% good (I use it with other laptops all the time), but the battery does not seem to charge, there are no lights or sounds, and of course it won't boot.
I would like to fix this, but unfortunately these laptop schematics (N5010 here) are just way too complicated for my elementary training. I have checked PU4502 as detailed in...

Re: Dell 1558 with graphics corruption - suspect it's terminal
Hate to bring up an old thread, but did you get this to work on the primary display (not external)? I have the same laptop but it had a problem on boot, two beeps and white screen. I figured it was the northbridge/GPU after changing the RAM, so I did a reflow and now I get it to boot but only on an external display with bad picture

Re: Alienware M17x R2 no power, no lights, no sound, no boot? Battery not charging ei
Well both chargers have a pin in the middle of the barrel. I think it's attached to the outside of the barrel, not 100% sure though.
I have tried booting on a second mobo without the discrete graphics, but it is the same problem....

Re: Alienware M17x R2 no power, no lights, no sound, no boot? Battery not charging ei
I will try this. One charger is genuine, the other is universal.
Should I still be able to boot without the discrete graphics? The i5 should have integrated graphics IIRC....

Re: Alienware M17x R2 no power, no lights, no sound, no boot? Battery not charging ei
Nope, nothing still. What are the chances that both motherboards are dead? Do they need to be grounded with a case when I try them?
Also, I don't see any charging light on. I tested the pins connecting to the battery, and all the non-ground voltages were in the mV. Can I/Do I have to add resistance somewhere to trick the motherboard into thinking there is a battery?

Alienware M17x R2 no power, no lights, no sound, no boot? Battery not charging either
Hey guys,
So I just picked up an Alienware M17x R2 laptop that doesn't work, and I'm trying to get it back up and running again. I believe it has an i5-540m, 4GB DDR3, and some sort of discrete graphics. The problem is quite simply that it doesn't seem to get any sort of power at all, either to or from the battery or from the charger. I have no lights, nothing spinning, blank screen, and no sounds coming whatsoever. Also, I'm only using a single 2GB stick of DDR3 that I'm 99% sure is good for testing, and using the button on the motherboard as the power switch, not the Alienware logo)....

Re: Advice on reflowing HP DV6000?
Ok, I think I should be able to tell when the solder has melted with the theremometer.
What sort of motion should I move in?
Thanks everyone for the help so far! I really appreciate it

Re: Advice on reflowing HP DV6000?
Just a quick question: Do you know how to test the NVIDIA chipset with a multimeter? I want to make sure that is really the problem. Schematic is attached if you would like to see it....

Are you sure its not dangerous to move the board when it's hot?...

Re: Advice on reflowing HP DV6000?
Thanks for the answers everyone,
I have a "no power" symptom (see here). I checked the coils/inductors, most of the main mosfets, and some caps already. Also, I get 3.35v at the switch, so now I suspect it is the chipset, but I suppose I could be wrong.Re: Advice on reflowing HP DV6000?

Advice on reflowing HP DV6000?
Hi everyone,
I have a HP DV810US (subset of DV6700, subset of DV6000) laptop that has a "no power" symptom most likely caused by a bad NVIDIA chip. I'm looking to reflow the chipset with either a butane pencil torch/heat gun or oven. Is one method "safer" than the other? I would prefer the torch method if there is no reason not to.
Also, how should I go about doing this? There are so many different methods online, each more absurd than before :/ Basically, if I use a butane torch, I'm going to also have an IR thermometer to monitor the temps and make sure...
