Re: LG 42LV5500 LED Edge lit...no picture, sound or backlights
Thanks for replying...i believe you are right, and i have seen a lot a talk about the cold solder on the bga chips here lately while doing research...No i don't have any reflow equipment and i dont see any main boards available anywhere online either..one in Israel for 250 bucks is all i seen!
But i have read about heating up the chip and or using a regular oven to reflow the bga connections, also read that is not a permanent fix.
So tonight i said what the hey and removed the heatsink...

LG 42LV5500 LED Edge lit...no picture, sound or backlights
Hey fellas,i was wondering if any of you had a minute to give me some pointers on this tv i got out of the landfill?
The power indicator comes on and is red when unit is plugged into mains power, hit the power button and i hear a relay click and the indicator light goes to blue..
Backlights do not come on, and i have confirmed with a flashlight that there is no picture or sound with a dvd player hooked up.
I only get about 10VDC that slowly climbs up to about 40VDC after many minutes on the large filter caps when unit is in standby. I get 395 VDC on...

Re: Stinky Vizio VO370m No menu or picture. No voltage to T-con
Well hot diggity dog!! The fuse seems to have been the only problem...I rigged a 2amp fast blow on her and she works..I ran it for a hr or more...I'll get a order in for a fuse..I seen on here other posts about soldering the new fuse on top the old fuse..Is that ok to do in my case?
Thats a million guys.i owe you a cold beverage!...And if you ever need any advice on autobody and paint work just give me a holler!...

Re: Stinky Vizio VO370m No menu or picture. No voltage to T-con
Guys im a little confused about what size and style fuse TF1 is.. Does the TF1 designation on my board mean Thin Film 1 amp or does the (F) stand for fast blow?..I have a (N) fuse at the TF1 designation and (N) stands for 2 amp that i can tell on Littelfuse website.
I looked at a bunch of junk boards tonight but i couldn't find anything..I did find a fuse marked 20 with a board designation of F1A..and i seen a post by Tom66 saying that is a fast blow 1 amp...but the fuse says 20, so can you see my confusion..lol.....

Re: Stinky Vizio VO370m No menu or picture. No voltage to T-con
Thanks..i just checked resistance from ground(chassis) to the dead side of the fuse (tv off) and i get initially about 100 K ohms and then is steadily falls to and stays at 17 K ohms...
The fuse is marked N is this what they call a ''thin film'' smd fuse? and N is the amperage rating?..From what i can tell is (N) is a 2amp fuse by littelfuse, but i see quite a few different series of them...Does this look right here at Mouser?

Stinky Vizio VO370m No menu or picture. No voltage to T-con
Found in landfill, actually it was really clean and not stinky at all lol...
Well here is what i have come up with...Vizio light goes from orange to white and the backlights do come on but its still just a black screen, well sorta dark blue from the backlights bleeding around edges...pushing buttons on side do nothing..no menu or anything comes up on the screen..The power button does work and tv will turn off if i turn it off.
I tried all hdmi inputs with a dvd player and nothing, but i did get sound at one point but lost it pushing buttons and couldn't get the sound...

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
Im wanting to order a replacement mosfet this week and im not really finding one
(k10a60d) at digikey or mouser..Digikey shows it but out of stock..But they show a couple mosfets on the page that state ''customers of k10a60d may also be interested in''...Is that a digikey way of showing a equivalent part?
There showing a TK10a60E that looks to have all exact specs except input capacitance and gate charge that i have no clue about.Does TK10a60e look like a good equivalent? thanks guys..

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
We have lift off!!! Heck yeah!!.. I removed the dim bulb tester and the backlights are on and working!!... Thanks so much guys!!..
I only left it on few a few seconds, because of that under rated mosfet i have in there...not sure if i should leave the tv on very long until i order and get the correct mosfet installed..but yeah its working!!
Thanks Capleaker!... i didnt think about the the 60 watt dim bulb glowing bright because the tv is now pulling its full amps to start up the backlights....

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
Ahh...i see what your saying...maybe there is no short and the tv is trying to start up with the backlights now, and since i only have a 60 watt bulb in the dim bulb tester thats why it glowed so bright...i only plugged it in for a second a couple times, quickly unplugged...
Thing i noticed before but failed to mention is the tv seems to turn on as soon as i plug it in,which doesn't seem right to me,but if thats what its doing than yeah the dim bulb would glow bright if tv is pulling its full...

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
i just pulled the mosfet and all combinations are open except .49v (diode test) between source and drain the one direction.
In circuit the mosfet had a reading in both directions from source and gate.. other combinations seemed normal
I cant remember how that mosfet tested in circuit before back when i didnt have a short.

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
Just using Dim bulb tester...60 watt bulb glows full bright as soon as i plug in.
Bulb does not glow at all with Fan7530 removed.
Before i put in Fan7530 tv worked with no shorts, just no PFC ramp up...Last edited by allsmith; 07-09-2016, 03:41 AM.

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
Well guys i put a used Fan7530 in my board and now im back to a direct short as soon as i plug in the power cord,60 watt light bulb glows brightly!..
I doubled and triple checked for solder bridges with 15x loop and even R&I Fan7530 twice to make sure...
With Fan7530 REMOVED and board plugged in i have NO short.
My inexperienced tv mind can only think of a few things...
1...i got Fan7530 too hot with the hot air station removing it and fried it.
Or
2...now...

Re: Samsung LN32b460 No Backlights...have sound and picture
I'm lost without you guys..Im getting 13.3VDC on VCC (FAN7530) PFC controller.
Any other tests i can do?
I do have another (FAN7530) out of a parts tv that should be good (tv had a cracked screen)..I have been practicing with a hot air station on some junk boards and i think i could do the transplant, but rather not if i dont have to, but im ready to do it if it comes down to that...I dont have any solder paste ,but i've succeeded doing the soldering with the small chisel tip on my weller solder station...
