If you're sick of McAfee and Symantec I'd suggest you try Kaspersky; someone did a test of virus scanners at Overclockers.com and this one came out on top as far as finding and eliminating threats.
Dunno about resource hogging, etc., but at least for detection and removal it exceeds the competition.

Replace electrolytics with different type capacitors?
Rather than replace blown electrolytic capacitors with the same type, is it practical to replace these with more expensive but maybe more stable / less noisy types of capacitors like ceramic, tantalum, or other types?
