  • With the help of this forum, I was able to restore an old HP Elitebook 840 G1 to life.

What puzzles me a bit is that I did not need to enter all data into the bios-config utility to achive that.
On the initial power-up after replacing the bios chips some scary warning appeared that this was attempt 1 of 10 (max?) and some data was missing or invalid.
However, after a while the message disappeared and this message was displayed:

EC MPM and System MPM Mismatch
System needs to restore system information
... will take a few minutes...

  • Need valid BUILID and FEATUREBYTE for an old HP elitebook 840 G1

    Hi there,

after I broke the bios chip (leg broke off during soldering, probably a manufacturing defect; it came of with a chunk of the plastic case), I am trying to get the box working again with a replacement chip.
For that I need to set a valid BUILDID and FEATUREBYTE. The Mainboard is Rev. 730804-001 and originally Windows 7 was installed.
There is no sticker on the case and partssurfer does not have that information either.

Would anybody be so kind to look at the info screen in the bios and copy those for me?
I would like to install linux on this...

  • hi,
I came to this forum because I'm trying to repair the bios of an old Elitebook 840 g1. While trying to read the bios with a CH341, I broke the chip (micron 25Q128).
The bios was password locked and I made the situation worse. I hope to find information to get this old heap of junk running again....
