Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I'm using HDMI and I did switch to a different HDMI port, but I didn't try the VGA output. I think you're probably right about needing to clean the area I removed the cables from.
Those lines in these pictures, the smallest line is 1 pixel wide and the wider line is 2 pixels wide on the end and 3 pixels wide on the rest. The first picture is the bottom left, the next one is the middle on the right side, and the last one is part of the menu. The menu looks pretty normal, but I'll have to look at the other Vizio I had to see how...

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I've turned off all the extra image processing things in the settings and stripped it down as much as possible. The pictures that I posted in the previous post are my results. Looks like ghosting. LCD panels can't have convergence problems can they? Don't want to jump to any conclusions or waste anyone's time with it. Everything seems to be working fine otherwise.
I wouldn't have gotten this far without this thread. Big thanks to everyone involved, especially freakaftr8.

Re: e701i-a3 no picture but backlights
I just got through removing the side tab drivers and replacing the MOSFET on the t-con board for this TV I've had lying around for the last 6 months. I used a 771-2N7002F from Mouser since I had 12 of them in my pile of parts from another project. Seems to be working, but I have some distortion on the lower left quarter of the screen. The left side of the screen had the bad drivers. Also the last picture shows some distortion on the icons in the notification area. Anyone have any idea of what might be going on or is this normal for this TV...

Two Monster Power inverters MCPI-150 fixed
For about a year I've had these Monster Power inverters and they've been sitting around waiting for me to fix them. They're cheap 150 watt inverters, part number MCPI-150. One of them had it's overload LED on and it was squawking. The other one was squawking without any warning lights. Both of them were working fine otherwise.
So I tore them apart and started swapping parts on them. I swapped the output boards and then one was squawking really annoyingly with the overload light on. The other was working silently still putting out power. So I figured there was a problem with the...

Re: Power Vampires
The fridge was made like 20 years ago and needs to be replaced, but it's still working so my Dad isn't going to get rid of it yet.
Not real sure what the square footage of this house is. The garage has been converted into two rooms so, maybe about 1600?
The water heater is gas powered, the furnace is gas powered, but it doesn't get used. The dryer and stove is gas powered also. The TV is a 61" JVC and it uses like 200 watts.

Re: Power Vampires
What is your price per KWH?
The bill here was $150 a couple months ago and they said the average was $0.14 per KWH. Last months bill was like $400 and still it said the average was $0.14 per KWH.
I don't quite understand what could be using so much power. I have one of those Kill A Watt meters and I've checked up on some stuff around the house. My PC uses 150 watts idling and 280 watts while I'm playing games. It's an AMD X2 6000 and my video card is a 3870. So I know it uses a little bit of power. But at $0.14 per KWH that comes...

Re: Geiger counter battery
I don't have any information about the batteries, but maybe this link will help figure it out?

Conclusion to the Conext CNB750 UPS thread
For all of those that might have been waiting for me to tell them what happened with this UPS (and probably forgot by now) here is what I've done:
I received the parts I needed to replace the ones I took off of this UPS to use on the other UPS. I got some diodes that were the wrong package.I got all these MOSFET's: FQB33N10L, FDP61N20, and HRF3205. The HRF3205's were not used since none of those MOSFET's were bad.
I removed the d2pak MOSFET's, cleaned up the pads, and then put the new ones on. I cleaned the pads for Q35 and D8. Soldered these parts on, it...

Re: APC UPS troubleshooting
Welcome gitco,
You've come to a good place for asking people about all things electric.
I'm no expert, but I've been playing with these devices for the past month and I've run across lots of information on them.
It sounds to me like the charger isn't charging the battery all the time. If you have a volt meter you could check the volts on the battery. Usually they have 12 volt batteries, sometimes like in my case, there are two 12 volt batteries connected in series. You should see 13 volts if it's a 12 volt...

That's my plan.
But, only on the one that is missing parts at the moment....

Re: UPS and inverter questions
Well, I guess the charging circuit is working normally. When I first plugged in the UPS the current across F1 started at 330mA and gradually went down to 3mA. When I turned on the power it went up to 100mA and then it started it's self diagnostics on the inverter. It was 300mA on the inverter and when it went to normal operation it was at 600mA and gradually went back down to 4mA.
So the battery is probably just showing it's age after being out of use for a year.
Apparently the microcontroller does some kind of test...

Re: Logic latch circuits for relay drivers?
Try this program out that I found. Probably be pretty decent to work out some logic circuits with.

It's someone's project for school. He's been updating it daily, also. I think he wants feedback so he can make a good grade.

Re: UPS and inverter questions
I'm almost thinking it's time for new batteries since the date on these is 2004 and sealed lead acid batteries usually only last 3 to 6 years. The cracking looks more like scratches, and it's not bulging as bad as I thought. These are the batteries that I didn't charge with that Black&Decker smart charger. Maybe they'll last a little while longer.
I'll monitor the amperage through F1 and go from there.
Thanks.

Re: UPS and inverter questions
Would logic level MOSFET's be damaged if they were overdriven? I mean if the MOSFET was meant to be turned on by 10volts and I replace it with a 5volt one.
I haven't spotted any shorted transistors yet.
I was thinking of replacing the whole set of MOSFET's so the circuit would be balanced. What would happen if the parts I used took too long to turn on and turn off? I'm assuming it would blow, since there would be switches switching when they're not supposed to be.
I found something disturbing...Last edited by andrew77; 01-28-2008, 08:08 PM.

Re: UPS and inverter questions
Would there be a problem replacing this mosfet:
Data Sheet
200volt 19amp RDS(on) 0.15 ohms 140watts max dissipation
with this one:
Data Sheet
200volt 28amp RDS(on) 0.082 ohms 156watts max dissipation
What I really need to know is, what to watch out for. Davmax mentioned earlier about stuff not being too critical when using these as switches, so I want to know what I can get away with. Without blowing myself up or frying myself.

Couldn't have done this without your help, I greatly appreciate it.
