Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Well the adapter I bought works. I just have a large dark splotch on the left and it's kinda dark strip in the right edge, but it works fine it appears, no issues thus far.
Although I did just have it darken out on me and I had to turn it off and back on to get it back on. Appears to be my lil' power adapter can't handle too much brightness before it auto powers off. Seems to work ok at 60 and below.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
According to https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=205071&postcount=155
It says "3) Run a decent gauge stranded, insulated wire between the points marked with an orange line. To get a good solder joint on the land between C713 and F701 scrape away the lacquer first. The other end of this wire goes down onto the middle pin of socket CN703 which is already quite well exposed for soldering."
I'm assuming this means to scrape away until I get to copper in the area between C713 and F701, then...

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
On that 110watt spec it shows that's if you have all USB ports and the speakers running, and this would be assuming on a white screen with max brightness and everything on max. Since I wont be using the speakers, and the brightness not on max, it should be okay. Other people reported using less power fine earlier in this thread as well, so I'd imagine 100w being able to handle the inrush. We'll see in 2-3 days.
For the bypass wire, it looks like the wire connects to both C713 and F701, correct? I'm going to solder that all together...Last edited by Fhajad; 08-21-2012, 07:44 AM.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
If that's the case, I'm thinking if just getting that one off Newegg, run it at 19v, that'll allow 100watts continuous no problemo. It won't require any re-splicing of end connectors as well.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
I guess I should ask, what's the voltage/amperage we should be aiming for. I've looked back and seen 19-20v from people from 5amp-8amps. I know the amperage you can go over, the biggest issue is the voltage. Is there a concern of what the usable voltage range is?

Those supplies wouldn't work though due to the pin connector?

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Does anyone have a link to good priced universal power adapter? I haven't been able to find anything that meets the specs required even.
I best I can find is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834992859 but its 20v output limits it to a max of 4.5amps.Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap<...34992859Last edited by Fhajad; 08-18-2012, 11:02 AM.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
I was gonna grab a 20v/100w actually. Where should I look for one that has the same size barrel connector? Or should I just get a universal?Last edited by Fhajad; 08-17-2012, 03:43 PM.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Looks like I can't get any good parts supplier and Fry's doesn't have the right parts at all.
Looks like bypass is the way to go.

What's the best source for finding all these bits? Digikey is useless on a lot, as is radioshack.
I got a Fry's about an hour away. Would they for sure have all of these bits?Last edited by Fhajad; 08-15-2012, 07:28 PM.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Doing an IC is making me nervous but better just give it a shot while I can that's for sure.
So looks like on my order list is IC651, Q651, R670, and D652. The fuse F601 appears to be fine since I'm getting voltage at the main capacitor.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
All I got is my cheapo radioshack iron. It isn't exactly quality but it gets the job done. I just can't personally justify a large amount of money into a station when I have so much else to pay off before that.
Heat gun will have to really be the only option, I'll try to protect everyone as much as I can but it's such a dense area that might be problematic.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Would a large heat gun work for taking out IC651 then and putting a new one in? That's about the only thing I can use for that.
And would I have to worry about the IC601 all the way up by the SMPS if the .22ohm up there is fine?

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
I don't think I'm well equip to do an IC though is the other issue. I can order everything else and give it a try. But if an IC is causing issue, there's nothing I'm going to be able to do other than just doing a bypass.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Ok so I'm about to order my bits and pieces, I'm just gathering the part #'s now to order from digikey again.
Do I need to bother with the SMPS area at all or just the parts mentioned earlier?

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
At 2000K Ohms I got a reading of about 850.
Everything other than that was giving me a "1" the whole time.Last edited by Fhajad; 08-15-2012, 12:11 PM.

Re: Dell 2407WFPb Monitor - Bad Cap
Trying again now I did get a reading when I went for the ultimate top of the post, the solder on the 2 wasn't giving me anything when attached to it. I'm attaching pictures of the meter and while I was on the board to be sure I'm not screwing this up. Again close up picture is low quality but gets where I'm testing at least across I think....

0
591
570
And on the 0.22 Ohm SMPS resistor it looks fine, it's getting a 001, while the bad one is getting 980 about.
